A comet hits earth and the survivors have to ward off cannibals, reestablish electricity, run from tsunamis, fight off bikers, all while starving. This one is from the 70s and very good.

I'm on part 2 of Last Tribe right now, it's good, but not as informative as Lucifer's Hammer.

Feel free to add your own doomy favorites where a reader can pick up survival tips! Like with Lucifer's Hammer, it takes 2 acres to feed one person.

Ender's game is one of the best ones I've listened to recently.

You can download them free from the library, better then binging on netflix as you can actually still do something instead of being glued to the screen like tv.

Re: Doom Audiobooks

It came without warning. A microscopic enemy that methodically turned the green earth grey. Decimating the food chain until only the prepared were left.

But preparation alone is not enough to shelter Eric Fletcher from the chaos to befall the world as governments fail their citizens. Seeking refuge at his remote property in the north of Montana while society devolves into starving anarchy, he finds himself facing not only the rigors of survival, but also the appearance of a self-proclaimed ruler promising to set his piece of the withered world right for those who follow. Those who don't will suffer the consequences of his sadistic retribution.

Finding another survivor near his refuge, Eric attempts to steer clear of the conflict brewing in nearby towns. But soon he and his new found partner in survival are targeted by the dictatorial leader, leaving them two options--run, or fight for what is right.

Check out A Canticle for Leibowitz, a pretty interesting story about monks who try to preserve technology after a nuclear war. It was one of the inspirations for the Fallout games.

One was a good story to listen to. Good enough that I'm going to listen to Two today.

What I learned form one: If you have solar you can use an electric blanket for warmth instead of making a fire, which would give away your location.

Re: Doom Audiobooks
This is an interesting concept - black hole doom!

Something big is coming... Big enough to destroy the entire solar system... And it's heading straight for Earth. That's what Dr. Ben Rollins, head of Harvard's exoplanet research team, is told by NASA after being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night. His first instinct is to call his daughter, Jessica, who's vacationing in Italy with his wife: something is coming, he tells them, a hundred times the mass of our sun. We can't see it, we don't know what it is, but it's there. They're calling it Nomad, and the Earth may be destroyed in months.

But what is it? And how did they miss detecting it until now? In a frantic race against time, Dr. Rollins must unravel Nomad's secrets. A mysterious clue surfaces in his old research papers from the end of the Cold War, more than thirty years before... The world erupts into chaos as the end approaches-and Ben discovers that his wife and daughter are trapped in Europe. The key to humanity's survival may rest in the final answers he pieces together, in the midst of his desperate scramble across continents to find his family before Nomad swallows the planet.

After It Happened Publishers Pack Audiobooks 1 2

This fresh doom is set in the UK. A virus has wiped out most of the population and the electricity is out. The few survivors gather together and decide that a prison is the best place to live in and defend.

The prison has a farm, it's defendable with high walls, has many rooms for the survivors to live in.

Amazingly, nobody has seemed to question what happened, if it's worldwide, if it's an attack on them. They're basically task driven.

Re: Doom Audiobooks
My takeaway from the "after it happened" audiobooks is a gamechanger for me. Everybody is going to have to majorly team up in an end times scenario. MAJORLY. Not just help each other out once in awhile, but live together and fight together.

This book constantly has people raiding each other, and you wouldn't think it would be so given the circumstance of vast untouched resources. That's what it was though. Raid after raid. Different people trying to set up their generally selfish fiefdom with themselves in control and getting whatever they wanted at the survivor's expense.

One guy said he was the king. Other guys wanted sex slaves.
Other guys were military wanting to run things military style.

Live and let live will be out the fucking window.

I had mistakenly thought that if I lived in a remote place nobody would bother with me. Well, if this book is any sort of a guide that won't be the case. Somebody is going to want a part of my labor, some sort of fealty, a price for a life.

Another takeaway is that you won't be able to trust anybody.

There is a part 5 and 6 but they aren't on youtube yet.

The premise is a guy calls up his harpy mom to borrow $500 to pay his rent because he's been partying, goes over, and finds his mom dead, a neighbor dead, and has to fight his step dad to the death. He goes home and passes out, gets arrested, then the zombification begins to happen - his step dad bit him.

This is a good doomy audiobook. The doom is post yellowstone eruption. The USA has lost it's govt.

The main character is a youngish adult man and his sister who hide and survive in a high rise with like 10 kids they've picked up. There's quite a bit of trading going on. A lot of gun talk. A lot of fighting the horde. It's an interesting story.

Not exactly a doom audiobook but GLP material nonetheless. It's about the Cherokee Little People, a Snake Handling preacher starting a cult, a guy on the run who's hiding in the deep woods, set in N Carolina.
