They essentially had the governor/regulator taken off their behaviors...something that had been working for generations before their generation of asshats (most of who are now in their seventies and still won't freaking retire).

The heroin addiction I witnessed was extensive. The majority were hooked, had been for decades. They had a good supply, hell, they were the ones keeping the supply lines open.

It also comes along with a lot of manipulation and control. You may discover that those doing the controlling also have a leash around their neck, via blackmail, extortion, threats, fear, fear of loss of status, addiction, more greed, etc.

A lot of them are in the same boat, so when they protect their own asses, they're also protecting everyone else's. Even after removing myself and being a freaking saint, at least among that lot, I still cannot out some of them without ruining my own life because we are so interconnected.

Do you control everything everyone in your family does every moment of the day?
What about if you have a corporation? Everyone in your company?

Even with paid help, there's a limit to how much micromanaging can be done.

It sounds like they are into the "create reality" thing since they're so into games and drugs.

I totally said when gen 10 died off, gen 11 and gen 13 combined couldn't keep gen 12 from doing what they do.

I think a lot of things they are trying to make acceptable is because that's their blackmail material. Or, part of it.

The layer you're talking about, what I refer to as the underpinning in my first post, isn't as bad as the ones selling the rug out from under you both.

Sometimes I spoke, but when I did, I expected to be ignored.

We created the rules for a society in which that is the natural and immediate result.

We actually planned for what would happen if one of us turned. We used you to make sure their one voice was lost, each and every time.

We still are.

It keeps a lot to keep a specific society functioning a specific way, sure.

Their folly wasn't in taking up a mantle, it was assuming they were pure or resilient enough to do so. If you're going to put yourself above the rest of the species, you have to be genuinely better than the rest of the species.

Despite the bloodlines and everything else, they, for the most part, are not. At the same time they've greatly underestimated the average human's ability to adjust their standards of normalcy.

There are inherent biases on both sides that make this argument a quagmire.

The further you pull perception from reality, the harder it snaps back when it finally breaks. How long do you keep building your tower if you know you must eventually jump from it? The right answer is to slowly demolish it out from underneath yourself. Some bloodliners feel the same, thankfully.
