Any tips on meditation?
I’m struggling with a lot of negative thoughts and emotions. It comes with my bipolar but it’s so hard to clear my mind and not have so many racing thoughts. I’m always angry about nothing and snap at the littlest things. Medications do not help, some self medication has but that’s not a good way to live necessarily. Just looking for some guided help if anyone had any recommendations. Thanks.

Re: Any tips on meditation?
Find a quiet place, a comfortable place, lay a thick cushion down that you can sit crosslegged on (but lay a foot in front of the other instead of crossed so that your legs are flat on the ground), propping yourself up with other cushions if you need to until you are stable, your back straight and neck supported by your spine without effort.. You can use a chair if needed instead, as long as you can sit up straight-backed, neck supported naturally. Without support like that, your shoulders and neck muscles would get tired holding your head in some posture.

Anyway, once comfortable, focus your attention on the movement of your belly innards as you breathe, counting each in/out cycle to 10 and down.. If thoughts come, note to yourself that you are thinking, then focus back on your belly and just keep doing that.. eventually, after a surge, your thoughts will become like a gentle background noise off in the distance, as you sink deeper within yourself.

don't resist your thoughts. acknowledge what comes up (i mean 100%, truly honor it), then release it. focus on your breathing. count your breath if it helps. or focus on one single point, for example, the word orange or something that won't evoke other thoughts. pay attention to your breath. focus on the present moment, just you and your breath.

I will give this a try. My fiancé her mother went to India and swore by meditation and my fiancé tells me I need to meditate to help me get through my troubles and it would work. So right now any tips would be useful and this one you just gave is an approach I have not tried. Thank you.

it sounds like you do know how to, you're just over thinking/reacting situations~

some meditate with music or dancing or etc, it doesn't have to be a quiet spot in a lotus sutra pose'.. lol , find a path that will serve "your" needs, but in doing so letting others do the same.. that just translates into --don't be a dick solving yo shit cause others are going thru the same shit-- you dig? godspeed

That's basically it, Anapanasati, or Shamatha - the awareness of breathing meditation.. the most simple and effective meditation technique.

It comes down to single pointed concentration, focus and clarity.

It is good to find yourself a meditation teacher, but here's a monk explaining Anapanasati:

Re: Any tips on meditation?
Just clear your mind when you are the most tired and ready for sleep.

Watch for the images in your head while you're trying to fall asleep. These are called dreamlets.

You can hold an image for a while and the next image will come more often.

As for meditation look up sadhguru.

Have some fun with dreamlets. Try jumping to other images randomly without knowing what they will be.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.

You probably won't find anything on dreamlets, but that is what those fleeting images are called while you are falling asleep.

Re: Any tips on meditation?
Turn your phone off. I had learned to meditate many years ago, and the instructor advised to turn the phone off. I didn't think it mattered, but it really startled me when it rang, so turn the phone off. I sat up in bed, closed my eyes and repeated a mantra...(not out loud). We were advised to never meditate before bedtime. Meditation actually gives you energy.

You won't think anything is happening, but it is. Meditate for at least 10 minutes every morning....on an EMPTY STOMACH...and you'll notice results in a week or two.

Re: Any tips on meditation?
first relax...and without thinking about "meditation" or breathing at all just spend a few minutes analyzing where in your body you have tension...just generally...

introduce awareness of the breath...but don't force any counting..yes...don't count...

now you'll see that with every EXHALE...you can INCREASE awareness of where you have tension IN THE BODY.

soon you'll see that you can't breathe NATURALLY on the INHALE, unless you RELEASE the exhale in subtle outbreaths with the OBJECTIVE being becoming increasingly more aware of the most subtle outbreath you can...

It literally becomes "Is my breath moving?

here it's a very subtle difference almost indiscernible between-
what is breath and what is
just becoming increasingly aware of releasing tension
and even concepts

it's actually really fun saying "buh bye" to something which is bothering you (tension, concepts)...

if your BREATH is SUBTLE
your MIND will be SUBTLE

Re: Any tips on meditation?
If other methods are still not working for you and you are really desperate I have something that may work although it is rather involved and difficult if you have troubles with mental visualization.

Get a quite place where you won't be disturbed setup with a computer, monitor and decent speakers. Download a decent brainwave entrainment program which allows you to make a custom program and pulses visuals and audio; I would start with 15 minute sessions which starts at 21hz and smoothly decreases to around 1-3hz (this is what I used to treat my insomnia, if you are doing it in the middle of the day as a relaxation/re-energizing deal you may want to have the program go 20min from 21hz to 4-7hz and the last 10min back up to 8-13hz. Before your first session work out the generals of the most relaxing memory palace you can imagine as well as your entry trigger and do a few detail layering walkthroughs, with a central object being a huge ticking grandfather clock or something similar like a big swinging pendulum or even an intercom system with speakers playing a soft rhythmic metronome sound.

For example my trigger was I would visualize a golden chest suspended in an endless void I was also floating in that would open to reveal a large intricate snow globe containing a large English manor spilling warm light out onto a dark swirling winter landscape that once I picked up and begin peering into would sort of "suck" me in and I would find myself before the large oak front door of that manor. The first room had rich wooden floors, a crackling always burning fireplace, a large comfortable chair, and mahogany desk I would sit at should I be coming there to write. That was my entry room and a door leading off of it would lead into another room with a towering 20ft tall grandfather clock, a fireplace stretching one entire wall and a bed so massive it required a staircase to get up to with white linens so soft my body would seem to melt into them (this was my sleep entrainment room as you can tell). All of that is merely a guiding example and your memory palace should spring from your own mind in all its details, the important thing is that everytime you "visit" it you continually layer into it as much sensory data as you are able; the smells and tastes in the air, the texture of everything, the sounds your movement makes, the little tiny visual details of each object. The more sensory imagination the better.

So the basic trick with the grandfather clock and fireplace is once you have well and truly entered your memory palace you start syncing the ticking of the clock with pulsing entrainment sounds and the flickering of the fire with visuals showing through your closed eyelids. Because your sense of time in such mental places can easily become very fluid force yourself to simultaneously imagine the grandfather clock not ticking any faster than a normal clock while doing this; a nice and steady mental tick...tock associated with the faster beat entering your brain through your ears. This is a nice little of shortcut to force your brainwaves to match the speed of the entrainment program.

I got to run, but I'd like to mention really quick that the common advice for meditation of "emptying your mind" is not really practical counsel for most people, especially those with minds full of anxiousness.

The One Who Dreams is here.

I would highly recommend anyone to avoid meditation as such practice opens your mind to the demons similar to how religious fanatics always claim they have spoken to Gods themselves.

I would not recommend anyone to be religious in this world either, because all religions of the Earth were tainted by Asura demons.

If you want to clear your mind and troubles from your life, I would ask you to seek help from God of Gods of your realm Avalokiteshvara.

Avalokiteshvara is the one who created this part of the Multiverse that contains the Milky Way, and he was the one who created everything from the beginning on this realm.

The name Avalokiteshvara means the one who listens, and his job is to look after poor souls living as humans who are going through pain and sufferings in this world operated by the demons.

You are all feeling the pain, because your destiny was scheduled to experience this evil age known as Kali Yuga where a new Buddha would arrive at the end to 'end all evil and sufferings'.

I'm not saying you need to convert your religion to the Buddhism, because again there's no religion on Earth that was not tainted by demons.
