Message Subject I need some advice on hanging something heavy THANKS!

So I am hanging a 40 pound punching bag no biggie.

I bought this wall anchor thingy for it.

Problem is I need it to be drilled into studs cause of the weight factor.

I have studs in the wall but they are like 12 inches apart. Vertically speaking. There are no horizontal beams.

My hanging mount thingy is only about 6 inches across tho.

Meaning I can get one screw drilled into a beam however the other part will only stretch to the drywall part. Which will not mount it properly cause it just falls out of the wall on the drywall part with that particular screw.

So what I was thinking.... is to go to home depot and have a piece of 2x4 cut to about 14 inches.

Then I was going to use that and hammer it into the wall so as to connect both beams and then from there mount a drill my holes into the 2x4 to get more hanging power if you will.

Will that work?

If not... could someone who knows about this kind of thing please pass along any tips or suggestions to me?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and have a great day!

In a word...yep!

Just to make sure, you mean you are going to use the 2x4 as a crossbeam between the 2 studs already in the wall and use that to mount the bag, right? If so, you are good to go.

I thought it might!

I figured I'm just putting a beam on the outside of the wall instead of it being on the inside of the wall.

Thank you very much!

Yes to what you said at the end.

Exactly what I was thinking to do.
