In California, the tax went up by $2, but a carton went from $48 to $88. Still haven't figured that math out.

Taxes are not ok but in this case those gas and cigarette taxes are used to repair the roads.

This tax is avoidable, not everybody smokes. I used to smoke but quit about $2 / pack tax ago. It was not health concerns that made me quit. It was anger at the state. I would be damned if I voluntarily give them $.

The lawsuit against the tobacco companies was based on the Government saying that they wanted to get back money they spent treating "uninsured" people for smoking illnesses.

Well now with "Obamacare" it is against the law to be uninsured unless you pay a fine. So why aren't Tobacco taxes repealed since everyone has health insurance except a few who pay fines for not being insured and so the government gets money from them also. Who is the government having to treat now that does not have insurance? Illegal border jumpers?

That's the thing. Let's tax something only 30 percent of people use? Its not going to work to their advantage very long. People are moving from here in droves, its mini California, my dog stepped on some tweakers needle the other day and the homeless are riding trains in and living under every bridge and viaduct in town. I started making my own several years ago. Now all I use is tobacco without additives/coatings/toppings. Great smokes, if I use expensive tobacco, for about $12 or so per carton.

I don't cough, I actually smoke less, and don't have to put up with "fire safe" papers, etc.

You use filters? How are you rolling them? Menthol or regular? Any of the tobacco like a camel? I'm intrigued!

you buy 200 tubes in a box I use menthol zen tubes 4 dollars a box. A l lb bag of tobacker makes about 2.5 cartons and I pay around 20 dollars. Criss cross tobacco is similar to camel and the good stuff at a local vape shop is also similar. I use a powermatic 2 rolling machine cost 70 dollars and pad for itself after first pound of tobacco
