I'd really appreciate it if you'd butt out of the conversation if you have nothing useful to add. Thanks. And I would appreciate it ix you would die in a fire. |

Whoever runs the rescue is likely not a trained veterinarian themselves, and is not in charge of your pet anymore. There are so many animals in horrid conditions out there that they could focus on instead of one that has gone to an obviously loving home. |

Croc You paid the money, it's your dog, simple as that. Unless you "leased" the pooch? I agree with you totally, but to them it is not buying an animal, it is "adoption" with strings* of all kinds attached. *leashes Yeah, with my cat rescue business I issued a few guidelines, like leaving the cat in a quiet room the first 24 hours and not letting it outside for 2 weeks so it could get acclimated. But my only hard and fast rule was that if it doesn't work out, just bring the animal back. No questions or judgment, simply let us try to find it another family. Ok those are understandable! But we are going on 8 months now! When am I Free of these people? Suggestions? Guess at this point you're going to have to give them the stern talk and let them know there are limits. Also get those people off your social media and refrain from posting anything about the dog where they might see it. Just freeze them out, they will find someone new to go pester. |

Found a rancher w/a litter of blue heelers for sale, half the price that theee shelter wanted for a young dog,,saw and met the calm momma dawg, questions answered from the owner on vaccinations--any problems-nO-parents vaccinated but pups still tooo young--as they are very young but owner PROVED to me they are weaned--guys ate heartily from a clean pan/drank their water, rolled all around playfully -- so whose puppies get homed ??? these people w/their stockpiles of dogs going neurotic due to confinement are INSANE and there should be some accountability for this as well. poor dogs...... |

07/02/2019 10:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I have a lot of experience in this area. I used to work in Animal Control. We had several crazy rescuers that ended up being hoarders. The worst was a lady that ran a Husky rescue (which just so happens to be my favorite breed). I wanted to get a puppy. I met all qualifications, and she had a baby that I wanted to adopt. She told me that I met her requirements, but that she wouldn’t adopt the puppy to me. She was going to make me adopt this older dog. I told her no, I wanted a puppy. She tried to guilt trip me, and I stopped talking to her. I went and got a puppy somewhere else. So anyway, I figured she was a bitch, but that she must really love her dogs. Well turns out she had over 500 dogs on her 1 acre property. Most were kept in cages, that were never cleaned. They were standing in their own filth and had urine burns on their legs. They were literally stacked on top of each other. Some were running lose, and some of them had distemper. It was the worst case of animal cruelty I have ever seen. We assisted the Humane Society with removing as many as we could. We were a small shelter and could only take in like 20. Some we took just to euthanize because they were so sick and in so much pain that it was cruel to let them suffer any longer. At one point she started freaking out about us taking the dogs and the lady with the Humane Society told me to get the dogs we could and run. So I did. I grabbed 50 lb dogs that should’ve been a 100 lbs and ran with them under my arm, while other dogs tried to attack us. I found several that we had personally sent to the rescue. We took most of them back, more than half we had to euthanize. I used to sit in everyone of those dog’s cages, hugging them, telling them how happy I was that they were going to a rescue. To say it broke my heart is an understatement. I have never in my life been so angry with a human being. Just thinking about that day makes me feel sick inside. Your rescue lady sounds like a major control freak, which sets off huge alarm bells in my book. Maybe you need to make a call to an agency to make sure that she is taking care of them properly. Sorry for the wall o text. Sensitive subject I guess. At the very least, reread your contract. If there is nothing in it about her still having control after the adoption then tell her to fuck off. Send her the letter from the vet, and ghost her. |

Quoting: beeches I agree with you totally, but to them it is not buying an animal, it is "adoption" with strings* of all kinds attached. *leashes We wanted a dog, both my wife and I have had dogs as pets for the majority of our lives. She met a rescue that was being 'fostered' by a woman she worked with. She said she liked the dog. I said, "ok, let's go for it." We "applied". Had to fill out a form. Then she tells me there has to be a "home visit" as though I'd lie about where we lived, our yard, home, etc. "Ok", I said, "but when they ask for tax returns I'm tossing 'em out the door, dog or no." They did visit, seemed satisfied, so we went to "meet the dog". It's a mutt, a good dog, a great dog, but a mutt that was rescued out of Alabama; no banjo on its knee... We've had her for almost eleven years, it's been a marvelous relationship. Dog was spayed when we got her which was fine, the world doesn't need more mutts. The rescue people have, all in all, not been that self-righteous once we got the dog, thank heavens. They'd have found me very uncommunicative. It's OUR dog, has been since she hopped in the car to go home with us. I'm not a fan of zealotry, regardless the "cause". Similar story! That dog is a lucky pup! So they have been in communication all this time? You said the dog was an Aussie? Send a text message: "Gidday, mate, all's well, shrimp are on the barbie, the beer is cold, thanks, sport." Dog's an Aussie, I promise she'll fall for it. Lol hahaha DooobieDooobieDoooooooo "Beware of the Penguins." |

Quoting: CaptnAndy A responsible rescue should only home neutered pets who have had age appropriate shots. There should also be a no fault return policy. My wife started a no=kill cat rescue in 98, using strictly volunteers. That organization, wist still no paid staff, has found forever homes for over 500 cats and kittens per year since then. Keys to success have been: Only taking adoptable cats and kittens, If they are feral, and can't be held, they can't be adopted. Fee must cover costs of spay/neuter, shots, and overhead. Unless they live at home, College students do not make a good, successful adopter. No question, no fault returns. Recruit and keep a large group of volunteers, so no one gets burned out. Seniors are a great resource. Use Pet Smart to adopt pets on the weekends. Take Credit Cards for the adoption fees. Keep the facility presentable, and post hours when someone will be there for adoptions. All reasonable ideals! I just wish she would be more suggestive rather than assertive as if she has a say in how I raise my pup. If this continues after his neuter..
