Let's remember to have plenty of a variety of cooking oils on hand - we will require the fats in our diet, absolutely necessary, and in the event an oil went rancid, it still burns as a light perfectly, so there is no waste. Better to have too much than not enough. Avocado, coconut, sesame, every kind, even including vegetable oil. If dogs and cats have to be fed something other than dog food, remember to add some oil to whatever they are eating, as well, please.

On the last season of "Alone" there was a guy who killed a moose but he was only eating the lean meat & not the fat.

Even though he was well fed he was losing a pound a day.

Poor slob had to go fishing as well to get his requirement of fat. (an animal had stolen the moose fat he had rendered).

You can always add your rancid and clean waste oils to diesel fuel. Do it in the summer when warm and don't add too much unless the engine is set up for it. 20% should be OK as long as there's no water in it.

I just saw corn being harvested in the rain a few days ago. I guess they wanted to get it done before the ground was too soft because I haven't seen any other corn fields harvested this week. Just worries me because that's got to be dried, just as I said a rainy harvest season would necessitate.

My preps aren't the finest but we'll muddle through till planting season at least. Just got a really significant break on my health insurance beginning Jan 1 so I'm hoping that will be something that I can grab $20 a month and reinforce my stocks.

I'm still seeing weakness in store stock and given the hullabaloo about the early Black Friday announcements, I'm thinking that stores are more desperate this year for a good holiday sales season than before. Joke's on them, I talked to my wife and we're not going out on Black Friday. My only reservation is if there is a sale on something fundamental to our preparedness. None of the cheap DVDs or other "consumer" grade stuff.

Sounds like a good source of protein while you are developing a source of oils. Every adversity has it's own opportunity.

As many people do...I keep some large emergency candles in my truck...just incase I'm ever stuck in my truck over night.

I tested a few candles that were frozen solid...the wax doesn't melt fast enough and the wicks burn out...POOF you are SCREWED!

SOLUTION: Keep a tiny amount of veggie-oil in your car...Put a few drops of oil on the frozen wick & then light the candle.

The wick uses the oil as fuel & keeps the wick from burning out...the extra time will melt the candle wax & you are good.

Sorry, but the empty houses came from the Dodd-Frank scheme that set up the derivative schemes and the Mortgage fraud scheme that left many people in foreclosure under OBAMA and out in the streets

Meanwhile, Blackstone Group bought up many, many of them and raised the price of rent for everyone.

Fact is, both right and left were involved in these schemes and many more. The two houses and the judicial branch help to set up these schemes, and always the people lose, never Wall Street.

My local food store I think sold out 6 months ago.

It looks to me that everything has gone up across the board about 25% average, in just months!

These guys are high any how. We're 40 miles from any competition.

I shopped at Aldis last week, spent $180. I found pickles with NO yellow dye, spears, dill slices and bread and butter, larger jars and no color dyes also about $1 less than the smaller jars at "Woods" the local grocer.
Had to drive the 40 miles each way though. Saved quite a bit actually even after gas cost.

Went into Woods today to get the "Organic" over priced milk, about $3.89 for a half gallon, they were out. I bought bread, 12 grain for almost $4.....

Found the manager and let him know what I think....only came in for organic milk and you are out again.

The same groceries I bought at Aldis last week would have cost me $300 at Woods and I would have got 30% less.

Coming into baking season- it will be a good time to stock up with prices low. Unfortunately many people in my house use a LOT of it!

What I meant was that you could track the collapse of the Nazis in each occupied country.

Being occupiers, they were responsible for not only providing for the basic needs of the population but also for increasing production so that any excesses could be sent back to Germany to help offset the shortages they faced there.

Many occupied countries that had underdeveloped agriculture benefited from the Nazis. Poland already had improved crop strains and animal breeds so they got an injection of mechanization. In the Soviet Union, the collective farms were left in place and given better seed, animals and equipment. I'm not cheering for the goose-steppers but a pragmatic self-serving policy with good results can be grudgingly respected.

As the war turned against the Reich, the numbers on many crops fell but oil crops in particular. This not only created a strain on the locals but on Germany as well.

It's a good lesson in how a waning agriculture weighs on the rest of the economy.

I haven't seen any good sales on butter yet but I'm hoping!

Dairy herds have had a pretty big decline this year for various reasons. There was a large operation near me that shut down because it wasn't making money. My suspicion is that is wasn't making money the way that selling out to land developers would make money.

So far, I am not seeing shortages as much as I am seeing price increases.

It amounts to the same thing.

My family tries to buy good food. So we are already used to paying a premium for food that is not toxic.

What about others, struggling to by food, even the processed, toxic crap in the middle aisles of the grocery store?

They will be making hard choices about food versus fuel, or rent, or whatever.

Trouble this way comes.

Please secure a supply of good protein, fat, and water.
