They're not controlling opposition from competing races/species.

They are terraforming, and setting up prison/slave colonies all over the place to farm. They're evil dark side. They won and toppled tiamat, mars survivors and earth with pole shifts. They do these things and refuse to allow civilization to advance past a certain stage.

They're evil worms.
