My Iraqi mother in law makes soup with the beans and pours it over the rice.
The soup consists of : beans, onions, garlic, a big spoonful of tomato paste, salt, and a pinch of crushed red pepper for spiciness. Add chunks of beef if you have them.

stock up on bouillon cubes as well. and salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried onions. if you are hungry enough, it will taste good.

my dad hated spinach when he was overseas in WW2 until he was starving. Then he found a case of spinach and him and his buddies devoured it..... He likes it now.

Ok, first off, get Sofrito ( garlic, recao(herb), small ají dulce( small bell pepper), and onion and mix all that in a grinder, you will get a green paste) and put a teaspoon of it in the pan with some EVOO and let it simmer for a bit until the juices come out. Thats when you put the beens (use the small pumpkin for cooking and get some small pieces in there. Let it cook for some time at low temp. It is how you get the very savory and higher consistency of the beans instead of watery ones.

Rice, you know how to do it.

Use some Plantano Maduro (fried plantain) as a side.

Get some Churrazco with Chimichurri.

Thats one of many ways. Latino style.

Add hog lard and pork sausage , make some cornbread

Lurker here, Chef of 25+ years. Seems your real issue is with the beans. I am not a fan of beans myself, but they do provide cabs/fiber/protein. There is a trick I have been using for years(taught to me by a elderly Puerto Rican Chef back in 90's). She cooked her beans with ham hock/onion/salt/water. However, just as the beans were about done, she used a potato masher to press down on them ever so slightly. You don't want to mash them, just get them to kinda split/crack a bit. Then stir them roughly until the water gets cloudy. Then off the heat for 30 minutes. Then strain, but not completely. Pretty much pour the pot of beans in a colander then back into the pot in one fluid motion so as not to let all the liquid strain away.

I have tried several variations to this simple but perfect recipe, from not pressing them, to using stock instead of water, etc... I just kept going back to her recipe. Her method just turns out better tasting/textured beans. I now use her recipe for beans for my award winning Cowboy Beans recipe, and have won every year since. I wish I had a chance to thank her before she passed .

If you buy high quality, expensive, imported Japan rice and cook it properly - yea that plain rice is delicious enough to be a meal on its own.

Even the Japanese say - if you have good rice it tastes like a meal by itself.

But if you are on a budget and buying cheaply grown rice. Just dump in anything for flavoring. Any stock, any vegetable.

Beans, if the are dried, but fresh, add a couple pinches of baking soda to make them more tender.

But there are literally a billion recipes online for cooking beans. And a thousand types of beans to eat.

"tomato sauce", and some "cooking oil".

These will add some 'flavor' to your rice.

Get short grain rice, fry it lightly,

add chicken broth and tomato sauce, let simmer...

Now you have Spanish rice and beans.

try black beans. It's a whole new world. fry in some chicken and you are eating like a king. Add some avocado on top afterwards and you're in heaven.

Mmmmm, Cinnamon Rice Pudding! Or Horchata drink!!!

Pudding:
- rice
- cinnamon
- milk
- brown sugar

Horchata:
- rice
- milk
- sugar
- vanilla extract
- water
Put rice, 2 cups water, and cinnamon sticks in a blender and process until the rice and cinnamon are coarsely ground. Add remaining 3 cups water and thoroughly blend. Pour mixture into a pitcher and refrigerate for least 4-5 hours or overnight.
Strain mixture and discard rice. Stir in milk, sugar, and vanilla extract. Serve cold.

Grilled goat cheese
Rice, beans, lentils, and hot pepper sauce.
