My basic bean recipe is a pound of beans and half an onion cut so it "blossoms" but stays in one piece for easy removal, three cups worth of bouillon cubes/powder/paste, and a pinch of chili powder. If I've got em I like to add a couple whole carrots and celery stalks, particularly if using chicken bouillon.
