User ID: 50330480 United States 07/28/2019 03:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One of my best memories from my DJing "career" (I never made any money doing it) was a request by one of the SimCity 4 developers; he had been a listener of mine and apparently my stuff was making the rounds at the Electronic Arts / Maxis office... (SimCity was one of my all-time favorite games growing up, so this was particularly cool for me...) Quoting: AkashicRecord® I ended up sending him a full CD collection of all of my material (up until that point) in exchange for a pre-release boxed copy of the game with a signed Post-It note thanking me. He had a particular favorite track based on its sheer weirdness (and he wasn't the only one!) Maybe I'll share it tomorrow... {I'm quoting my own post for context.} Here is a link to something that features that aformentioned favorite track: [link to www.mixcloud.com (secure)] (This one could never make it to YouTube, etc.) Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

This got played out but I never got a spot DJing there. It went out of business shortly after, so they got what they deserved! User ID: 73102755 United States 07/29/2019 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HOLY SHIT! i've got headphones in-house but i have to send out for nitrous oxide. this will require dedication and respect. i am unprepared and as of now, YOU win the nerd fight. school us. (plus im not kidding i am going to go out of my way to purchase nitrous oxide that i can abuse as a recreational drug JUST SO THAT i can hear that piece of art done proper)... peace out Well, I don't think I could properly school anyone as to the craft...after all, it took me thousands of hours to get there. I can offer tips though, such as NEVER get a belt-driven turntable...only quartz-locked magnetic drive (and be careful when removing the platter and exposing the magnets; you'll never get iron filings off of them!) As far as mixers go, that's less important but being able to switch between different modes of cueing is a huge boon, as well as being able to adjust visual monitoring as well. What I mean by that is that it's nice to be able to see both programs as well as the "house" or master mix without having to explicitly listen to them via your cue mix...and it's nice being able to dial in any amount of both "sides" of the mix in addition to listening to the master output at any given time. (I was never a fan of "listen with one ear" method when i could use my mixer's cueing features properly to get a much better result.) One more thing about mixers (I swear by the Rane TTM series) is that you need to think about whether or not you'd want to add CD players or samplers, etc. later on. If you're going to drop $850 on a mixer, it better accommodate your setup. I ended up with 2 turntables, 2 CDJs, a phrase sampler, a guitar + guitar synthesizer, and a number of different keyboards (mostly sold off now...) I started with probably between 30 and 50 records at first, and quickly realized that it wasn't enough. Over the years I'd spend a few tens of thousands of dollars to build a decent collection...(even hundreds of jazz records.) Oh, and if someone spills their beer on your decks at a party...KICK THEIR MOTHER FUCKING ASS!!! Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

It's impossibly hard to pull off! Try it!! Thread: Akashic's Records (#003) "The Devil's Seduction of Mohammed" Here's the third installment of a special set of eclectic sets. Quoting: AkashicRecord These are live vinyl mixes, though a bit different from what I used to do. I'm using a lot of things that I've never used before, and also some strange stuff like like spinning the record by hand, and playing some things at very slow speeds. User ID: 50330480 United States 07/30/2019 10:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This was a bit nerdish, at least from a technical standpoint...because it was pure analog synth SEX! (~$2,450 worth of it...) I used to play some my own shit in my DJ sets, but not until many years later...when I had a sufficient arsenal of gear, of course! After many months of searching, I'd managed to find what was nearly the last physical unit for sale on the entire damn West coast... Something I'd been obsessing over for months... It was either that, or an Access Virus, but this was just a bit more over the top... (Not an Access Virus) The first weekend that I had that beast, I tried to somewhat unsuccessfully "remake" a particular U2 song...but it didn't really work as an instrumental, so I had no idea what I was thinking. It did have its own quality and uniqueness, so it wasn't a total bust... [link to youtu.be (secure)] Here's something else that I started by using that keyboard but never finished, and I only ever shared the result with one person,,until now... [link to drive.google.com (secure)] I later (regretfully) sold that keyboard for about $4,500 (and even that wasn't truly enough) to a prior owner [of the same model synth] so I knew it had a good home, and that was the only way I was going to allow it... Maybe next time I'll get a Virus... [link to youtu.be (secure)] Last Edited by AkashicRecord® on 07/30/2019 10:44 PM Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |
