Deep within South Africa's Rising Star cave system, in a dark passageway barely 6 inches (15 centimeters) wide, scientists have discovered the fragmented skull of a Homo naledi child they're calling "Leti."
That leaves open the possibility that more than 240,000 years ago, human ancestors with orange-size brains deliberately entered a dark, maze-like cave, perhaps through a vertical chute that narrows to 7 inches (18 cm) in places, and placed their dead inside.
According to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, H. naledi walked upright, stood about 4 feet, 9 inches (1.44 m) tall and weighed between 88 and 123 pounds (about 40 and 56 kilograms).
"Child of darkness" - wow his skull fits in a human hand "Rising Star" is an interesting name for a cave system Yeah the skull doesn’t match 4’9 body the Smithsonian is telling. Child of darkness sounds like a marketing scheme or psychological problems of the namer lol Do you think that it could it be the "little people", that indigenous talk about? Ha, and maybe a little of both, marketing psychological problems... So this species was just found in 2013, it looks like a paper was published in 2015 and there were blurbs in 2017 and 2019, for whatever reason, but a few pages into a google search and it's mostly this new news...idk, seems weird and CNN is even covering it lol
