LAUDERDALE WATER SUPPLY LITERALLY BEING SUSTAINED BY A TREE STUMP We had a broken water main by executive airport a few days ago and THIS is how they fixed it? Holy Shit!!!!!! Fort Lauderdale wasn’t going out on a limb when it stuffed a tree part into a hole in a water pipe last week to keep the city’s water flowing. Faced with a damaged water pipe that threatened to cut off the city’s water supply, officials used a tree part —limb, branch or trunk they’re not saying — to plug the hole a contractor had drilled into the pipe. Once the plug was in place, the pipe and tree part were encased in concrete. You can easily carve the wood to match the hole & push it in...the water makes the wood swell and seal the hole even better. It's temporary...but works very well! You can go to most plumbing supply places & buy a temporary coupling sleeve for most diameters of pipe. You wrap it around the burst or cracked pipe & tighten metal securing straps. Then you send a night crew to replace the segment of pipe. Sounds like half-assery at it's finest.
