My 5-minutes discussion (and I don't remember what was the theme) with some older Burmese monk saved me from my (long-planned) suicide (and I think the monk even didn't mention it).

There is something (I don't know what thing) that is outside our minds that can course "THE WORLD WILL BECOME PEACEFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND ABUNDANT". But it is substantially tied with you/us, it cannot be without you/us: you achieve it by changing yourself. To try to create it intentionally (without the change/outside yourself) leads to disaster (see communism, Nazism).

The most important is that such people (and I am sure they are not from a Buddhist tradition only) simply are. Their presence is sufficient.

Bumping this video that you posted, Kraken, and I will spread it around. This is so important. The words/labels we use have an intense effect / have great power. So we are urged to use them carefully. This interesting video stresses the influence that LABELS have on children and adults, which turns them into a prisoner of that label. In the first part, Ajahn Brahm describes an experiment he heard about while studying to be a teacher; a class was divided into two, not according to ability. They were labeled A and B. All the children in B assumed that they were less intelligent, though this was not actually so. The children in class A assumed they were cleverer than class B. The parents scolded their children if they were in class B, and praised them if they were in class A, although neither was merited. After 9 months, they all took an exam. All the children in class A did well. All the children in class B did badly ....

Ajahn, as a teacher, also did an experiment: he gave the "worst pupil in the class" a lot of attention over a period of time, and this pupil eventually turned into the best in the class.

Thank you again for sharing this, Kraken. The key is realizing that we may have been influenced by these labels/convictions in the past, and that we can melt go and move forward to create the new. Through work on ourselves, we effect change.

Well Colour Crusader, I give you one of the examples that happened to me after my return from Burma.
I bought some food in a Kaufland and sat down under a tree in a near park to eat it. Suddenly some youngster was coming to me with something in his hand. "I am sitting and it is not a good position to defend myself" flashed in my mind (once I was interested in martial arts). "But, I fuck it off" I said to myself and I remained sitting. There was some "custom" in my country at that time, homeless persons stole something in a supermarket and then they tried to sell it very cheaply in the neighborhood. So I supposed it is the case, that the youngster is de facto a beggar. He asked me if I don't want to buy his knife. "OK, I give you some money" I answered and I gave him some coins, I am sure it couldn't be much. And the man started to stutter, something like "thank you, I didn't expect it" and was somehow surprised and moved. And went away (of course with his knife). "WTF?!" I started to think, "you could expect to obtain some trifle". A why did he come to me so briskly, vigorously and frowning, and with an open knife in his hand? "You motherfucker, you had probably an intention to rob me" I did the conclusion.

Ajahn Brahm is special, what he teaches is secondary, the jail officer wanted him only, not another monk. The Burmese monk who saved me from suicide is special, what we spoke about was completely unimportant. I was special (it gradually disappeared, the atmosphere comminuted/corrupted me again, although not to the same level before) and it influenced my surroundings.
Things then happen unintentionally.

Kraken, this sounds as if your time in Burma pierced or endowed you with a sort of serenity which could not be shaken. This is a hallowed state, being able to cope with anything - even the most unpleasant of scenarios. It also sounds like being able to embody a feeling of "wait and see", instead go being quick to judge a situation, or like the ability to be generous with one's immediate conclusions.

This is of course a delicate balance, for too much "generosity" can endanger oneself. So it also includes an ability to discern correctly, and to stay in balance. I imagine that the experiences and memories of your Burma period will stay with you forever, even if present challenges may water it down somewhat. My conviction is that we always meet challenges which -however - dreadful - will contribute to our learning experiences, and will fine tune our spiritual development.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I think they merit their own thread. Certainly, if everyone followed the road of self-investigation, as you do, the world would be a better place.

The ultimate answer to your question OP is Honesty.

If everyone was truly honest with one another we'd all have a better chance at greatness.

Mankind is not born with inherent knowledge like our creator, we have to endure a harsh evolution and really learn right from wrong.

IMO this is why blacks should all return to Africa and stay out of 1st world countries. They will always be pawns for the evil ones otherwise.

Honesty, as well as transparency, is indeed a great game changer, and as the situation on our planet becomes more transparent with every day, this will result in great revelation of truth which will shock those who have not realized that dishonest and deceptive individuals have been ruling us as a collective.

However, honesty is sometimes a "two-edged sword", as described below in a post I made previously. What you are referring to is spiritual evolution - learning right from wrong - and if we fail to do so, dreadful conditions of our own creating arise.

Re blacks returning to their country, this is a very broad brush statement. Many have been living in so-called 1st world countries for a long time, and call them home. Those who become pawns do so because they do not grow their minds, and do not attempt to discern, and do not question the narrative which is so conveniently presented to them. They are easily divided into groups which fight each other, allowing others to hold the strings. This has nothing to do with skin colour.

These three qualities, if consistently manifested by all, would change the face of the planet in an instant - especially if we add “trust in the Divine” to the list.
It is not possible to go into conflict with someone we respect. War cannot be conducted between those who show each other mutual courtesy. Lies and manipulation cannot arise if everything is openly and honestly discussed. And if we show gratitude, more experiences for which we are grateful will inevitably come our way.

Such are the laws of attraction. What we give, we receive. If we are honest, others are more likely to be honest with us. If we are respectful, we are more likely to earn respect. Through our behaviour, we can determine which response and what sort of society we prefer – peaceful conviviality or painful strife.
Honesty is sometimes a two-edged sword: it should not be brutal, but compassionate: we should not present the “naked truth” to those who are fragile and over-burdened. This may cause them to shut down completely, or to collapse under the weight.

Just as we are fed truth in digestible portions, so do we also hand out digestible portions of the truth to others. This sort of honesty can be referred to as “compassionate honesty”, for to reveal all would not necessarily further the individual’s path, but rather create a blockage, resulting in severe stagnation.

Agree all our daily choices have tremendous impact on our reality. Always strive to make the better choices by choosing the ones that are helpful to evolve humanity.

In this ongoing test of consciousness amidst a reality of hardship and chaos, the better choice is rarely the easy choice. If this test was easy, it would have been finished long ago.

All high consciousness messengers throughout the ages taught us a better way to live and become evolving humans towards peace and harmony. The better way is quite simple, but many prefer and find comfort to stay in the grip of the purposely designed ego mind.

Those who have been blessed with the spark of divinity will be humbled and grateful having experienced a brief moment of the immense love of God/Higher Self/Creative Source/Prime Creator. Going forward, never will they want to be pulled back into the grip of the ego mind again, progressively shedding their immature behavior of being greedy, selfish, ungrateful, judgemental, retaliatory, and unforgiving. They are starting to raise their consciousness and become evolving humans.

We can all start our journey to a better way of living by doing our best a bit at a time to be more kind, more forgiving, more respectful to oneself and all others, and more appreciative of what we already have.

Our souls are here in human form to take on this immensely difficult challenge with passion, made even more challenging with temporary forgetfulness of our divinity, maximum duality, and maximum free choice.

Such an adventurous challenge will span multiple lifetimes and realities.

Relax and enjoy the adventure of expansion and experiencing. Fear, anxiety, and frustration are some of the biggest blockades to reaching a higher state of consciousness.

As consciousness rises, more and more of our hidden powerful innate abilities become unlocked to greatly support and fast track our journey to becoming evolving humans, to reaching greater wisdom and maturity, to finding our true Self that is pure love.

Thank you so much, AC from Canada. I can support your every word here. You have traced the journey to the REAL SELF. Our physical bodies, the physical vessels we are are using to have a spiritual experience on this planet, are only temporary (we change to a different one after "death") and if we full understand the implications of this, we will know that our future is ETERNAL, and this will put all challenges we face into perspective.

Having said that, this is a very difficult planet to be on, but we have chosen it for the experience. Some are here to learn, and some are here to assist that process. The period of "dispensation" for the learners, is gradually coming to an end, and then there will be a division of ways. We can maybe understand it better by knowing that we are always in the appropriate "classroom" to learn the next lesson. And if the present lessons are too difficult to learn, or if the students refuse to study, then something has to change. Either the student is given a big PUSH to complete the course (and this means a large awakening process and shock to get them going), or the classroom (i.e. planet) has to be changed.

Thank you davidnv: this is indeed an essential realization, and it again points to the fact that INNER TRANSFORMATION is necessary to OUTER TRANSFORMATION, which is something that rules, regulations, laws and other attempts to restrict, contain or control, cannot achieve in the long run. Such measures are merely damage control.

In addition to the beauty around us being a mirror or ourselves, all that is unpleasant is similarly a mirror of ourselves. We can only recognize that which we know, and which is part of ourselves. Here is my previous post concerning this topic:

The process of projection is generally in play. This means that what we have already experienced - the joys and the pains - influences the way we perceive other people. If we meet someone new, we might take an instant dislike to them, though others may find them totally amiable. This does not have to do with the person in question, though there are undoubtedly more pleasant and less pleasant personal traits which we can agree upon. For example: if you perceive that an elderly man is speaking to you harshly, you may take an instant dislike to this person. This “overreaction” is not necessarily due to what has just been said, but because it triggers unpleasant memories of what your father or some other person in authority said to you in the past.

The “mirror principle” works both ways. If we dislike a person for being "uncommunicative", this is an invitation to take a long hard look at our own lack of communication. There will always be something to learn if we understand this. We recognise WHAT WE ARE FAMILIAR WITH, as opposed to what might really be in front of our eyes. If we realise this, so many strained encounters will become relaxed, and much can be seen in a new and peaceful light.

Generally, if you are a person who strives to improve yourself, who carefully discerns and is willing to criticize that which is not in alignment with cosmic law, if you constantly seek to serve others (loving yourself to the same degree as you love them), seeing everything as part of (or a projection of) yourself, and seeing yourself as part of the whole, knowing that everything occurs as part of a divine plane, living your potential to increase beauty, peace and abundance, then your statement would be correct.

Once the GREAT RECOGNITION OF OUR COLLECTIVE FAILINGS has taken place - and we are not far off it now - we will have the tools to CREATE THE OPPOSITE, which is paradise on earth. Those who automatically turn away from worlds like "paradise" and "ideals" are those who are (self) restricted in their view of the world, and in their view of THEMSELVES, failing to recognize their own creative power and potential to effect change.

I would prefer, Wookie, to avoid labels of all kinds, including liberals and conservatives, right and left, communist and consumer. It goes on: I would prefer to disuse the words employment, unemployment, holiday, retirement, etc. Why? First because there are so many different aspects of one person, and to put them into one category is limiting. It may be "truth" for one moment, but let us leave a door open for the next moment, when their behaviour may change and be completely different. I was simply stupid, underestimated the situation. But it enables the bully could enter in my sphere of vibration/atmosphere/orHowToCallIt and it addressed him. At that time people on the street smiled at me without a reason. Once I literally returned to my home to see a mirror to reveal wtf is ridiculous on me (now people already don't smile at me, maybe opposite :).

Why Ajahn Brahm caused prisoners to never return to prison again is Ajahn Brahm himself, it is not important what/which method he teaches. What was the reason I decided not to commit suicide was the Burmese monk himself, because through him - out of words - I saw "the light at the end of the tunnel".

The reason I write my reactions here is to persuade you don't try to impose some methods/roles on your neighbors, change yourself, and then things somehow solve itself even if you do mistakes.

This is a great one, Davidnv, and not yet covered, I think. It is akin to the situation if everyone is honest. If everyone can see/has access to other people's thoughts, then all existing beauty as well as all existing ugliness or deception will be clearly visible. This means absolute transparency. But this is more "reading someone", than communicating telepathically.

Telepathy is a much more immediate and effective means of communication - sending thoughts and images without having to press any buttons or reload any batteries. I am a receiver of telepathic messages, and I am witness to the fact that this has been an amazing journey, and still is.

You are so right, Kraken, that things change because we change ourselves. All problems can indeed be solved by increasing certain qualities personally (hence my other thread). Although the problems we have may seem material/physical, they are solved on a mental and spiritual plane. I have lost count of the number of self-reflection / awareness/ development course I have attended - but all of them were extremely valuable, and I gained many insights.

Thank you, david nv. The "slowing down" process is presently being forced, for some, by the corona lockdown situations. This is a positive repercussion - that we are suddenly removed from our overfilled, hectic lives (if that is the case) and lifted into a completely different scenario in which we have to to reflect on our priorities in life. Some will discover that it is possible to work at home (when it was always maintained that this was impossible). Some will experience what it means to spend 24/7 with their loved ones and children, which may go well, or not. Some may have the first "rest" in many years, and sometimes this will "allow" illnesses to break out. For everyone, the experience will be different, and it will bring a new awareness to those who are able to learn. Others may remain "stuck" or fall into despair, or break up with the people they live with. All difficulties will rise to the surface, and will be truly and completely looked at, and this is is one of the purposes - spiritual growth - of these times.

Yes, David: most people are convinced of their limitations rather than their potential. Every thought (and thoughts precede words and action) is a creative tool, forming the future. If we are all aware of this, we will all start to think "high quality" thoughts which lead to actions which will benefit everyone. Our lives do not simply roll out in front of us; we make small and large decisions with every breath. If we go even further back, opening up a greater perspective, we have even chosen the family and place we were born into, before incarnating. Those born into unpleasant circumstances will certainly rebel at this statement, yet it is not the idea place which we choose, but the ideal place to learn. Sometimes the learning curve is very steep, and this we choose also. We can also choose to opt out, but this means that the task will have to be reattempted later.
