BOMBSHELL FROM Nasa--EARTH'S rotation is slowing...uh-oh??!!

What I don't understand is what momentum has to do with our atmosphere.Gases do not take up momentum, and certainly would not hold the rocket back in it's fee movement if it would have been being ejected from an allegedly rotating sphere.

Earth’s rotation is slowing as our planet uses energy to keep the tidal bulge ahead of the Moon’s orbit. The Moon’s gravity keeps Earth’s rotation in check, and to do this the lunar satellite’s orbit must be slightly ahead of Earth’s. As the Moon attempts to regulate Earth’s rotation and slow it down, the Moon moves slowly away.

“One of the rules of the Universe is that ‘angular momentum’ can’t go anywhere — even if individual pieces speed up, slow down, or change direction, the sum total of angular momentum cannot change.

The Earth loses angular momentum when the Moon slows it down, so the Moon has to gain it — and it does, by moving further away in its orbit

Gasses don't have momentum? That's a new one. Apparently they are magic now.
There is nothing to stop the atmosphere from generally moving along with the Earth. Some rocket going up isn't going to magically lose its momentum it had while on the ground just because it goes up so there is no reason to assume the ground would spin away beneath it. And if you are talking about the Red Bull jump, then there was no rocket, it was raised by a balloon and the man landed about 70 miles away. Nothing was "ejected" from a rotating sphere. Nothing happened to make the capsule or the man lose their momentum.

Look out the window and stare at a body of water. The Earth is flat and does not move.

yep. The Earths rotation is controlled by the Sun. Much like an electric motor.
Solar minimum = slowing rotation.
