Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska) activity update: Small lava lake deep in summit crater

Recent unrest (seismic tremor, thermal anomalies) has increased and a new, very minor eruption is underway. AVO field crews observed a small lava lake inside the deep funnel-shaped summit crater, but the activity has been contained within the crater so far. This is similar to the last eruption in 2014-15. The alert level has been raised to ORANGE/WATCH. A more substantial eruption is possible (like that of 1999) but there is no indication of this occurring so far...
