The level of activity at the volcano remains very high, with little significant changes during the past days:
Strong degassing and strombolian explosions occur from several vents at average intervals of approx. 2 minutes (yesterday, the average was 28 events per hour)...
The strongest originate from the Central / SW cluster of vents, which eject glowing lava scoria to up to 300 m high. Spattering (near-constant, pulsating degassing with mild lava ejections) mostly from the NE vents reached 150 m ejection height...
The lava flows in the SW area of the Sciara del Fuoco continue to be active, but confined to the upper slopes, but with frequent rockfalls tumbling down to the shore...
Tremor has been fluctuating between high and very high levels.
Staff of the INGV Catania documented the crater morphology during an overflight on 23 Aug (s. picture attached). For those familiar with the volcano before the paroxysm on 3 July, it is impressive to see how much the vents (including new ones) have changed their surface appearance. Due to the ongoing intense strombolian activity, several cinder cones have now been growing rapidly inside the crater terrace...

I've been doing a little bit of research on the statistics and data on the average volcanic activity/eruptions that is going on, globally, as per requested and so far I've found a couple of pieces of interesting information that I will link in this thread...

My link shows the statistics and data of the number of volcanic activity/eruptions that have happened based from the year 1994 up until currently, 2019...

I will link it below and let you decide on what you think on the average activity and eruptions, wether the activity is increasing or decreasing, (depending on the type of volcano and area of the volcano) of the statistics and data shown...

Personally, I think it all depends on the area of the volcano, the type of the volcano and the frequency of activity/eruptions of the volcano to determine whether the activity is increasing or decreasing based off these statistics shown in the link, on a yearly basis...

Also, that's without the mention of the frequency of Earthquakes Nearby that happen which normally offsets these volcanic eruptions/activity occasionally...

Actually, there are quite a few things to take into factor here, obviously, regarding the frequency of volcanic activity/eruptions to determine whether the activity is increasing or decreasing...

So, off to do a bit more researching on this and hopefully, I'll find some interesting stuff worthy of sharing with you all :-)...

How many volcanic eruptions occur every year?

On average, there are about 50-70 volcanoes that erupt every year. Some of them erupt multiple times, while others only have one eruption.
The typical number of individual eruptions per year is more in the range of about 60-80...

Eruptive phases vs eruptions

In many cases, it is not easy to define the start and end of an eruption and whether long-lasting eruptions should be considered in such statistics or not. Generally, volcanologist prefer to talk about eruptive phases of a volcano that belong to one single eruption: two or several eruptive events separated by a pause in activity, which can span hours to even weeks.
However, it is often impossible to give a final answer to whether two eruptive events at the same volcano should be considered two eruptions or two phases of the same eruption...

Anak Krakatau volcano (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): ash eruption warning, aviation color code raised to RED

A new eruptive phase is in progress. It seems to be stronger than the intermittent explosions that occurred sporadically during the past weeks, as the volcano observatory raised the color code to RED.
The following is from the original warning note issued to aviation a few minutes ago:
"Eruption with volcanic ash cloud at 1253 UTC (2053 local). Eruption and ash emission is continuing
Volcanic Cloud Height: Best estimate of ash-cloud top is around 822 FT (257 M) above sea level, may be higher than what can be observed clearly. Source of height data: ground observer.

Ubinas is Peru's most active volcano. A small, 1.4-km-wide caldera cuts the top of the volcano. The steep-walled, 150-m-deep summit caldera contains an ash cone with a 500-m-wide and 200 m deep crater Debris-avalanche deposits from the collapse of the SE flank of Ubinas about 3700 years ago extend 10 km from the volcano. Widespread plinian pumice-fall deposits from Ubinas include one of Holocene age about 1000 years ago. Holocene lava flows are visible on the volcano's flanks, but historical activity, documented since the 16th century, has consisted of intermittent minor-to-moderate explosive eruptions...
