Erupting (4 out of 5)
Taal volcano (Philippines) eruption update: activity remains low, but strong interrnal unrest continuesThe volcano's activity has not changed significantly during the past 24 hours and remains at low levels, with weak emissions of steam plumes rising 300 to 500 meters high from the Main Crater and drifting to the southwest mostly.
Internal activity however remains very elevated: since 05:00 to 16:00 local time today, PHIVOLCS' network detected nearly 250 volcanic earthquakes, most of them only detectable with sensitive instruments but including one which was weakly felt in the area and several low-frequency events typical of internal fluid movements.
Sulphur dioxide emissions remain high as well, at 4353 tonnes/day as measured today.
PHIVOLCS interprets these data that magma continues to intrude into the shallow feeding system, which means that the current phase of eruptive activity could again increase in the near future.
The alert level of the volcano remains unchanged at 4, the second highest.
