Mt. Thorbjorn volcano (Reykjanes peninsula, Iceland): earthquakes decrease, but inflation continues

Earthquake activity around Thornbjorn volcano has decreased over the past days, but weak inflation, likely caused by magma accumulation at shallow depth, continues.
Icelandic scientists measured that in some places about 5 cm ground uplift have taken place since the start of the seismic crisis and that the intrusion is likely located at 3-5 km depth in an area just west Thornbjorn. The Icelandic Met Office reported yesterday:

"...Small earthquakes are still being detected in the area. Since the 21st of January over 1500 earthquakes have been located in the area. Most of them are located in a SW/NE line around 2 km NE of Grindavik.
Indications are that the crustal deformation pattern has changed, however uplift is still ongoing. In total the uplift is about 5 cm since the 21st of January. With ongoing uplift we can expect ongoing earthquake activity."
