A friend of mine believes that the Earth is flat. I challenged him to prove it by walking off the edge...

you really don't need any practical demonstration.
There are never a high pressure/low pressure system next to each other harmoniously without a barrier. Gas particles seek equilibrium. One becomes the other. Happens everywhere except in the "ball earth" paradox where we are to believe we're surrounded by a near perfect vacuum void.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9233880 This is true. This is absolutely true. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7835328 The atmosphere forms a pressure gradient. It is not a binary situation. Suck on it: [ link to drive.google.com (secure)] Quoting: Astroshill Why do I need to "suck on it"? What's the point of you saying that? Have you have eliminated any and all of the mystery that surrounds us? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7835328 Did I say I solved every mystery in the universe? No. Presence of mystery does not mean everything is a mystery. I don't need to know everything to know that a planet's atmosphere can exist even though space is effectively a vacuum. Do you believe that a vacuum can exist if it is not contained?
Quoting: ACClearly it can. Look at the source code, there are no containers in my simulation, the particles will gladly keep going in whatever direction they want. The sides of the window are not barriers. [ link to drive.google.com (secure)]
