I think the point is that if you were a friend of the Nobody at a bar and you went outside to smoke a cigarette and you asked him, “are you going to hook up with that girl” because you’re on a double date.

He would know that he would fall in love with that girl and a decade down the line that you would fall in love with her too and she would cheat with you.

So the nobody would say, why don’t you talk to her? I think she likes you more.


He knows that what he says at the time doesn’t make sense, that it is objectively not true. He does not know if what he does will make the world a better place, but if he sees that the world will be bad in the future because of an action, even if it brings him great happiness for a while, he will avert it. That’s whAt we call faith, the belief that if you destroy your future as a negative force then it will be fulfilled as something better .
