Engineers are pumping water from Toddbrook Reservoir but if it bursts it could swamp Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire. Wow. That does not look good at all. (OP) User ID: 76283851 United Kingdom 08/02/2019 02:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | BUMP! Good Morning The RAF is there now trying to plug the hole in the dam [link to www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk (secure)] A Royal Air Force Chinook has been drafted into Whaley Bridge in efforts to stop a reservoir collapsing after it was "badly" damaged during heavy rain. Hundreds of residents have spent the night away from their homes due to "an unprecedented, fast-moving, emergency situation" caused by heavy downpours. Toddbrook Reservoir - which contains around 1.3 million tonnes of water - has seen "extensive" damage during the flooding and images appear to show a huge hole in the dam wall. The helicopter was sent from RAF Odiham in Hampshire to assist at the Reservoir, a Ministry of Defence spokesman said. He added: "It will drop one-ton bags of aggregate - a mixture of sand, gravel and stone - into Todd Brook. "This is intended to stem the flow of water into the reservoir." Xx |
