Sliver Patriot, a 10 year poster on GLP, passed away last monday, July 29th, from cancer. She had been diagnosed in April. When they attempted surgery in April, it was everywhere in her abdomen, so they started heavy duty chemo and radiation instead, to try to knock it down. It never worked, and she steadily went downhill. Quoting: tiger1 Silver Patriot, my friend Sandy on and off this board, fought with all she had, and was bolstered by the many prayers of posters on this board. I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your kindness, for your thoughts, and your prayers for my friend Sandy. While Sandy was still conscious, she told me she wanted me to tell you all "THANK YOU" for your prayers. Sandy was a Patriot, having served in the Air Force, as did her husband. Sandy was also a Prepper, very wise to the possibilities of "anything can happen". Sandy was a strong person, but very kind hearted to all in need. She was such a good, and supportive friend to me, talking me through a lot of the strife I have had at home over the years. All I had to do was call or send an email, and she had my back, no matter what was going on here with me. I was privileged to spend her last few days on this earth with her, praying with her and for her, helping her with her medical and other needs, and giving her husband, her sole caregiver, a little break. Even though she went home from the hospital on hospice care at her home on July 25th, Hospice didn't show up until the afternoon of July 29th, a few hours before Sandy died. I had to catch my 18 hour train ride back home to the Chicago area, a couple of hours before Sandy passed away. She died as I was en-route home. Sandy's legacy, IMO, is to fight for what is right, never give up, and keep the Faith. Godspeed my friend ! What a difference you made in my life, my dear friend Sandy !!! RIP. You sound like a friend worth having. I'm so sorry about Sandy. I lost my best friend to cancer when she was 41. She had an ovarian cyst. The hospital just stalled for time with her treatment until it was too late. She died with the cyst still there. No offer of an emergency hysterectomy. She left 3 daughters and a husband of just short of 25 years. I was absolutely devastated and cried like a baby at her funeral. We'd known each other from being kids. I miss her still. But it's true in that time is a great healer. You shared life together. You always remember and they're never too far away. We all have that to remember |

Life is a spiritual war and no matter where we lay our head, we live in a warzone. There will be casualties. You do get to choose your side. I chose the Bright Side where my God fights for me. Others chose the Dark Side and fight for an entity that views them with disdain and discards them. |

Her husband was going to retire in November, she was already retired. They had the blueprints, and she was going to pick me up here in Indiana,on the way to Wyoming. It was going to be a girl's road trip, with one of her dogs with us ! When she was diagnosed with the cancer, she said we were going to go on that road trip next year, things just delayed a bit. But,it was not meant to happen. :( Quoting: tiger1 This is so sad, and that would have been a great trip, prayers to console you Tiger "It's a friendly friendly world" (Andy Kaufman) Calm seas do not a sailor make, Nor easy horses, a horseman. At least there is the knowing that they have gone on to greet us when our next journey begins. We are left to complete our tasks in this now, for reasons Unknown to us but they know. We still have work to do. Thank you. One back turns in parting to turn and turn again. Leaving is never going, its circling round the bend. |
