Re: What Were You DOING This Month In 1969, If U Were Around Then? What Do You REMEMBER?
I was 19 years old and a real hippie chick. I was at Woodstock. At the time we would refer to ourselves as Freaks. We dressed differently in bell bottoms and had long hair and smoked lots of weed and did hallucinogenics. I was very active in protests to stop the war. I really believed we would. That this was a turning point in time. A new time of world peace. My uncle gave me a deck of Tarot cards and I was reading cards for everyone. I remember getting ready to go out and meet my Freak friends when my mother said "come here and watch this with me. We are on the moon! We landed a spaceship and man is walking on the moon" Nah I dais I have to go out now. I didn't even think twice about it. I was going on my own trip to the Moon! The thing about Woodstock is that I realized we were not Freaks at all. there were hundreds of thousands of us. The press had led us to believe we were in a minority. I believe they are doing this to us now. That there are millions and millions of "conspiracy theorists" That is the reason they want to control information.

Re: What Were You DOING This Month In 1969, If U Were Around Then? What Do You REMEMBER?
I was living in a Frat house that summer. Preparing to move into a campus dorm building. The vets returning from Vietnam were starting the "anti-war" movement on campus. The C.I.A. had their "Project Vietnam" going where they brought male Vietnamese to train them on how it would be like to live in America, we all knew that war was a loss. I remember watching the Moon landing on T.V. It was interesting that the rocks they brought back had a high percentage of "pure"
titanium in them. Here on Earth Titanium is only present as an oxide and there is a costly process involved in purifying it so it can be used. On the Moon it is pure already. I have Asperger's Syndrome and had written my paper on conceptional symbolism the fall of 1968 [ Return to Babel ].
I remember reading about Woodstock in up state New York.
The music on the radio was interesting and timely. Dr. Alvin Coox of the history department was the on campus C.I.A. recruiter. Dr. Love was campus president at San Diego State College back then. Interesting and involved times. In early 1961 after a meeting with Admiral Zumwalt I had been asked to review Chamorro, the tongue of the first natives of Guam, as a possible military code language for our American military,
I was only 12 at that time. I turned 21 in July of 1969.
Our MGM star Judy garland had died that June and there were riots in New York.

Re: What Were You DOING This Month In 1969, If U Were Around Then? What Do You REMEMBER?
It was the summer after my first year in school, Kindergarten. I was 5 years old, but I remember A LOT. Firstly, I was already working, helping my Dad @ work, cleaning machine parts, along with my 2 older brothers. I would earn $4 a day, a LOT for a 5 year old.
I remember we got a new Ford that summer & drove it to Fla. that June. I remember wanting to rent a dune buggy on the beach, my older brother had just gotten his driver's license, but my Mom & Dad insisted we couldn't. I remember coming home & watching "the moon shot" with my Dad & brothers in our family room. We trusted what was being fed to us, & we took them at their word. My beloved father was a VERY proud WWII Vet & ESPECIALLY trusted the gov't., "Uncle" Walter (Cronkite) & the CB$ NEW$. They would NEVER lie to us, so we thought.
I remember it was a particularly hot August & I was allowed to steer our electric lawnmower for the first time, which I thought was thrilling. I remember listening & singing along to "Good Morning Starshine" on the radio, sung by 'Oliver.'
2nd week of August started out with helping my Dad hang flowery wallpaper in our bathroom. I very vaguely remember the manson killings being on the news a LOT then. It put a pall on the 'moon landing', for sure. Everytime I hear the Nilsson song, "Everybody's Talkin At Me," it reminds me of that strangeness we all felt that summer, the killings both domestic & in Vietnam, where things had reached a crescendo the summer before. The tv news invariably would start with the latest hero U.S. Soldier casualties & aircraft being shown napalming everything & I remember each week watching the news shows showing bloody bandaged G.I.'s being airlifted by Chinook helicopters near Saigon.

I was 10, my brother 9. We built/staged a carnival in the backyard. Sold tickets. We had 7 or 8 “attractions “. Lots of energy and imagination. We were a good team.

Re: What Were You DOING This Month In 1969, If U Were Around Then? What Do You REMEMBER?
I've been following this thread, as I posted my story earlier. It is fun to see all the stories.
I am particularly interested in the Summer of 69'
I was adopted at birth...don't know my parents.
So, I'm very curious what life was like then.
Specifically if you were a woman, about 21 years old.
And lived in the Mid-West (Michigan)
What would it be like to get knocked up that summer
By a guy who does not plan on marrying you.
And abortion was illegal
And to give a baby up for adoption in April 1970.
What was the world like right then?
I know Viet-Nam was a huge problem.
Nixon.
The music.
The clothes.
The drugs.
We all know that.
But if there is anyone out there that can tell this story, in a way that express the feelings and emotions of that moment
in time

I'd appreciate it.
I'll keep checking back.

This is a very interesting thread.
Thanks
-Peace

Re: What Were You DOING This Month In 1969, If U Were Around Then? What Do You REMEMBER?
I was eight years old. I lived in a small town and for the first time we had a black kid join our school. He got in lots of fights and always won. Then they brought in a 17 year old to beat his ass. I still feel bad shit about that.

I could ride my bike all day and no one would wonder if I was getting snatched up or hijacked. It was a good time to be alive.

It pissed me off that Saturday morning cartoons were being interrupted by jerks out in space going for the Moon or some war in Vietnam was killing so many innocent.

I honestly wish I could go back and be that innocent again...

I am from the South, in 1969 I was a young kid thrown into a den of vipers, all that we did was to try to survive one day at a time due to the actions of the Yankees pushing Integration on an unwilling Southern public.

I was a puny white kid and had my ass STOMPED every damn day.

Times were so horrible....
