(OP) User ID: 1897079 United States 08/25/2019 01:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had just turned 14 in June and dropped Purple Haze in the park with my long haired boyfriend. It was so sparkly! Those times are hard to describe to people who didn’t live it. Best days ever. Wish we could all go back in time just for a night. Quoting: Atarstar YES!!! Yes, yes, yes!!! Wish we could have it all back for a night, or, better, even a week. Just to have all that love and beauty and wonder again. If we could go back to that with today's knowledge - life would be so different today, and all the years in between!!! When I was 16, 10 years later, we were all hanging out in the parkway of my hometown then, Allentown, Pa.! .. and experimenting with "Windowpane," blotter acid hits.. While wandering around the park, in awe of everything, the babbling brook, the sunshine like a kaleidoscope, the green, green, fresh cut grass, I came across a tv magazine with Lucille Ball on it's cover. "Look! Everyone, it's LUCY!!!" I exclaimed, staring at her face on that cover as it glowed in my hands.. "I REALLY LOVE LUCY!!," I said, almost in tears.. that cover glowed, as if it came to life and had a consciousness of it's own. & that was my (Jimmi Hendrix's) "EXPERIENCE" ___________________________ GOD IS REAL. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75167845 United States 08/25/2019 02:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It was the summer after my first year in school, Kindergarten. I was 5 years old, but I remember A LOT. Firstly, I was already working, helping my Dad @ work, cleaning machine parts, along with my 2 older brothers. I would earn $4 a day, a LOT for a 5 year old. Quoting: Truth 1818 I remember we got a new Ford that summer & drove it to Fla. that June. I remember wanting to rent a dune buggy on the beach, my older brother had just gotten his driver's license, but my Mom & Dad insisted we couldn't. I remember coming home & watching "the moon shot" with my Dad & brothers in our family room. We trusted what was being fed to us, & we took them at their word. My beloved father was a VERY proud WWII Vet & ESPECIALLY trusted the gov't., "Uncle" Walter (Cronkite) & the CB$ NEW$. They would NEVER lie to us, so we thought. I remember it was a particularly hot August & I was allowed to steer our electric lawnmower for the first time, which I thought was thrilling. I remember listening & singing along to "Good Morning Starshine" on the radio, sung by 'Oliver.' 2nd week of August started out with helping my Dad hang flowery wallpaper in our bathroom. I very vaguely remember the manson killings being on the news a LOT then. It put a pall on the 'moon landing', for sure. Everytime I hear the Nilsson song, "Everybody's Talkin At Me," it reminds me of that strangeness we all felt that summer, the killings both domestic & in Vietnam, where things had reached a crescendo the summer before. The tv news invariably would start with the latest hero U.S. Soldier casualties & aircraft being shown napalming everything & I remember each week watching the news shows showing bloody bandaged G.I.'s being airlifted by Chinook helicopters near Saigon. My folks were usually watching Lawrence Welk reruns then |

Those were strange days, indeed with massive social upheavals I was 7 and remember the same things the rest of you do old enough to remember. The hippies really stand out in my memory as scary and degenerate destroyers of civilization, my observation was generally they looked dirty, stunk and were bums. That same year while I was visiting my grandfather, my woodstock veteran [then] 17 yo aunt made a big 'ole pan of hash brownies to calm us kids down.... It calmed us down all right...I was damned near comatose. I ate 2 of them while a chunky neighbor friend ate 3.. Of course we both got wasted. We both knew what weed was and that the hippies got stoned on it, and we knew we were stoned. It was my friends older brother that ratted us out and my aunt got scolded when I sung like a canary. I also remember thinking how the Beatles really sucked and I couldn't understand why the kids liked them so much, it almost seemed like some kind of hypnosis because to me he early Beatles was just noise. I didn't like them until they broke up. I completely bought the moonlanding saga, but I was young then. By A 17 I was convinced Apollo was mostly a propaganda hoax because the live video looked hokie and fake as fuck I remember listening to the radio swinging on a swingset and the only thing I had was an AM transistor, which force fed government/war propaganda every half hour for 5 minutes. I know those of you alive then remember this. They were always talkign about body counts and the bond market/stock market..like it was a game and they were giving the score...we were ALWAYS winning...I remember this moment in my life when I made the realization that most of the world had gone insane and didnt know it, and that the necessity of Vietnam was an evil lie. a |

Playing sports outside, swimming, staying out until the sun went down, not worrying about perverts kidnapping us. Playing flashlight hide and seek at night, shooting rats on the rivers with BB guns, lying about how much we knew about girls, etc.... In other words, a pretty carefree child with a lot of brothers and friends in the neighborhood in a small rural Midwest town with a 98% white population....... Anonymous Coward User ID: 77950385 United Kingdom 08/25/2019 05:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was also 5 years old and starting kindergarten. Dad was in Vietnam, so watching the war on the TV news every night was absolutely terrifying (maybe THAT'S why I'm so screwed up). Mom, raising 8 kids while Dad was at war makes her my most admired woman ever. Quoting: Where Eagles Dare One day, a kind neighbor lady (she was a nurse) brought my little 3 year old brother home. He had gone to the mailbox on the next street over, and was trying to mail himself to Vietnam to be with Dad (in those days, big blue US Postal Service mailboxes were on the corners of many suburban streets). Mom used to spend hours on the phone with Grandma, and would often lapse into speaking Spanish as naturally as speaking English. Dad came home at the end of 1969, just in time for Christmas. We didn't have much, but we had each other. What a sweet story! Wow...8 kids with your dad in Vietnam? Amazing! Cute story about your little brother! Wonderful story. God bless you all. |

My father said it was a bunch of dirty hippies and commies. Probably hung around listening to Bobby Sherman records. Quoting: debster Well Woodstock was crap and they were gonna call it early. Jimmy Hendrix was the last band to play, but he wanted to give all performers a chance to play. Heres the band that played before Jimi Hendrix closed Woodstock as the last performer (headliner). Theres some story about how of the 3 days the town was over run and out of food and the concert goers where so high on drugs. Some lady made 1000 ham and cheese sandwiches. I would have to loved to see these guys though. Last Edited by SoloTrashyCrowd on 08/25/2019 07:34 AM SoloTrashyCrowd |

I got really into them how they made music in different rooms or different areas and the mystical was they had. They were true musicians, they jammed together without writing a song. Its like magick, I guess that's where all the black magick thing comes from. Basically they were the best jam band. They just grooved.
