i believe i might be able to shed some light here.

it is half true. it used to be more true, but some things have changed over the years. most males need to join the military, but there are many ways ot get out of this, and do something else instead. so, no military rifle for them.

and, it used to be required to being your rifle home with you after military service, but that isn't required any more. they can be stored at the barracks.

so, many do have the military rifle at home, but not as much as before...

you are also allowed to defend yourself during a home invasion, but it must also be shown that the suspect wasn't fleeing when you defended yourself.

we were also recently spooked into voting to tighten a few laws recently to bring it in line with the EU (eu directive) even though switzerland is not part of the eu. i was totally against this and voted against it. i think it is total bullshit and likely only the first step of many more to come to infringe on rights. of course the real issues were clouded behind lefty bullshit, as usual.

If you think that is the ONLY reason then you aren't very smart. Clearly there are societal factors that contribute to the lower crime rate in Swizerland (low poverty, people probably raise their kids for the most part, social programs that make sure citizens don't have to worry about education/health care costs, etc.). What Swizterland proves is that guns do not automatically lead to violence, which I agree with completely. However, you would have to be an idiot to believe that guns are the only reason that Swizerland is a safe country.
