Quoting: Monzsta Does a centuries old clock still keep time? Time.... and rhythm. are two slightly different sides of the same clock face ;) For Example. Sit ye with a metronome and vibe then sit in your car with the window wipers on and try do the same. . |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77882573 United States 08/12/2019 05:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This observation, if true, may explain a couple things. First, shorter days means less sunlight and lower crop yields. Less food. I wondered why all the "smart devices" being pushed into homes all had internal or visual clocks. Amazon even released an actual "smart" wall clock. All it does is connect to the net and just sit there being a wall clock. Maybe controlling the perception of time, via the net, is one of the goals of the smart devices? Standalone clocks would show actual time oddities. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77911083 United States 08/12/2019 06:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’ve been experiencing weeks go by likehours... Thought it was just me? Like, it’ll be Friday, then seven days fly by, then it’s Friday all over again. I’ve experienced this before, back around 2008/2009. Days flying by like hours. Then it seemed to slow down again until now, but I think the OPis right. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13360454 Weeks go by like days now. The months and years fly by too. I've always thought that it's because the ratio of the time to your life span keeps getting smaller. For instance, when you're 8 years old, Summer Vacation from school seems like FOREVER! That's because three months is 1/32nd of your entire life. But when you're 60? Three months is only 1/240th of your life span! And then there's the toilet paper theory, that as we get closer to "the end" the roll empties a lot faster! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74632481 United States 08/12/2019 06:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It’s simple. I remember the cadence from last year’s seconds, and I count them in my head with my stopwatch running. I counted 10 seconds then pressed stop, and guess what happened? It read 13 seconds. So it’s 30% faster than last year. Quoting: CopyNinja87 Algebra: 1.3x = 24 hours 24 / 1.3 = x x = 18.46 hours So, in 18.46 hours from 2018, you get 24 hours from 2019. Because 18.46 x 1.3 = 24. Meaning today’s time is 30% faster. Subtraction: 24 - 18.46 = 5.54 hours. Conclusion: Each day is now 5.54 hours shorter than exactly a year ago, with time increasing ever faster. That’s all it takes, very simple. I’m sure you still remember last years cadence, or was that too long ago for you? Yes, OPie, I have noticed. Remember how you used to count between lightning and thunder? A secone was "one thousand and one", IIRC. But I can tell by the microwave timer. It has seemed to me that three seconds pass in the time that one second used to. I've been noticing the speeding up, gradually, over the last couple of years. Also, shorter nights = sleep deprivation. My body is evidently still running on "slow time". |

But parents and school teachers are talking about little kids noticing it and commenting on it. How time just flies by. One friend said a group of fourth graders were talking about how much better things were "back in the day". So, they notice other things, too. Even they could see the big changes in just a few, short years. |
