Most recent flood kills another 140 with more rain coming
"worst in 40 years" All the homes were affected. 100,000 displaced - homeless overnight. The entire earth is getting some of this. Where will your food be grown?

It has mountains 20 miles inland with marshy areas along the coast. Floods are likely a very common occurrence in the area.

The overcrowding of India may not be as bad as Bangladesh, but it is bad. People live in areas that they should not even think of living of living on.

The worst flooding in 40 years? As they have twice as many people as back then, this really does not look too bad.

Too bad for those stuck there, for sure. It is not easy getting a 7-11.

FFS, not sure why you would want to discount this story that is like so many others happening right now. IT'S A FUCKING TREND WORLDWIDE! The entire world is seeing these kinds of relentless storms. S. Korea just got blasted with 5 inches of rain in an hour and 10 in a day. The images from there are horrendous.

As mentioned above Missouri was hit with 14 inches of rain. Wherever you look, there are record setting storms day after day not too far away.

How old are you? You must be a young one to be taken in by these weather "horror" stories.

Those of us who have been around a bit longer know it's not unusual, we have seen periods of no water and mowater. LOL. A little joke my grandfather once told me that involved rain and mowater.

This is just a speck we are living in now in the grand scale of time. All things change in the long run, you can't stop it. Weather patterns repeat in decades of time and march relentlessly forward toward global change in EONS of time, only to circle back and start all over again.

Chill. You can't change it, all you can try to do is adapt for survival.

Same where I am. A mild summer and pleasantly, not a dry one. Would have been a great year for a garden.

I think the last few of years of volcanic eruptions that have been going on coupled with that solar minimum might explain the cooler summer? A shift in the jet streams perhaps?

Briefly consider this....

- These days, with technology, news can spread globally within seconds of occurrence. Anyone with a phone, tv, computer, radio, etc can see/hear/read said news. Compare that to just 30 years ago or 60 years.

- In a similar light, look at the global population of, say, 60 years ago and compare that to today. Populating a region is a first come, first served deal. So the best spots got snatched up ages ago. As the population grows, people are forced to inhabit the less desirable areas...i.e. prone to flooding, prone to wildfires, prone to this or that

Think about it.

I am not excluding the possibility of some sort of weather phenomena and/or change in climate from being a factor, but it's certainly not the only factor.

India's June 2013 Flood: Earth's 4th Deadliest Weather Disaster Since 2000

By: Dr. Jeff Masters, 3:10 PM GMT on July 15, 2013
Over five thousand people missing in the wake of the devastating flooding that hit India's Himalayan Uttarakhand region on June 14 - 17, 2013, have now been declared dead, making the disaster India's deadliest monsoon flood event on record, and Earth's 4th deadliest weather-related disaster since 2000. The death toll of 5,748 tops India's previous record worst monsoon flood death toll of 4892, set in July 1968 in Rajasthan and Gujara provinces.

Seems like this has been an issue for some time.

The point is are they actually record setting or just news headlines.

There was a flood in India in 1943 that killed between 5,000-10,000 and dozens of floods since that have killed thousands, yet every one now is tagged as the worst ever.
