The oppression of the British was still a step up from the Qing, and was an astronomical improvement in liberties compared to the kuomintang or the communists.

In short, fuck you. Compared to the fate Hong Kong would have suffered under mainland rule for the last century, the British made it a light in the darkness for Chinese people suffering in their own country."
