12,000 years ago the advanced civilization that moved 100 ton precision machined granite blocks 100 of miles and built stuff probably said I'll save a thumb drive of our technology. Maybe I'll bury a library of our advanced civilization for future survivors if any.

But if you take all the tech and energy away you end up with a civilized man in a caveman environment. No way to read or power up the thumbdrive, no interest in reading materials because he has to forage for survival 24 hrs a day. Soon all advanced knowledge is lost, all technology is forgotten. Because there are now only 300 of 7 billion people now roaming around. No one remembers what it was like or how to do stuff.

Agreed, and it's mostly going to depend upon individuals' luck of living on the opposite side of the earth from the direct solar blast, being somewhere you won't get crushed in the resulting quakes and being at sufficient altitude to survive the next version of Noah's flood.

In all likelihood, those who will survive will be those hard men and women living in places like Afghanistan and Tibet. The probability of of engineers, physicians, etc. (i.e., city dwellers), surviving is near zero.

While Ben does talk about making preparations such as knowing local caves and mines in your area, this isn't doom to worry too much about... enjoy your life and roll with it if you happen to be alive when this cosmic event occurs.
