Retail bankruptcies hit an all-time high in the first quarter of 2018, even more than last year according to Business Insider. More defaults and bankruptcies are expected to come, says a report from S&P Global Ratings, with retail liquidations speeding up. The report also says the U.S. remains oversaturated with retail despite this.

Some of the businesses that have made this list might surprise you! On the face they might look fine — the clerks still have smiling faces when you walk in and the clothing is still folded neatly on the shelves. But behind the scenes, there’s turmoil! Curious to see if your favorite store is on the list? Read on…

I despise malls . I will purposely drive out of my way to find a small family owned retail or hardware store to avoid the monolithic big boxes.

As a Brit that has seen all of his high street independent shops go broke, I tell you this Save SEARS and the man shops, any shop selling stuff that is useful in a post apocalyptic world is worth spending extra in,

UK high streets now just variations on the same theme, home decor, scatter cushions and womens clothes! no shops of substance left, all imported Chinese junk, and as someone that likes quality there is no comparison to being able to look and feel an item in store, you cannot compare tools etc on the internet.

J.C. Penney Catalog Features Gay Couple With Child, Freakout Ensues

J.C. Penney is admirably doubling down on its campaign to piss off One Million Moms. This image appeared in the JCP May catalog, and the conservative group that had conniptions over the retailer hiring Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson promptly reconnipted.

Online purchasing. Brick and mortar retailers can never survive against the convenience of buying sitting in your home office computer or by use of your smart phone.

Smart retailers would use moth avenues. In store retailing along with selling their goods online.
