Trump Says Chinese Communist Authoritarian Xi Jinping is a ‘Great Leader’ and ‘Good Man’

President Donald Trump said in a Tweet he sent out on Wednesday night that Xi Jinping, the Communist leader of the People’s Republic of China, is “a great leader” and “a good man.”

“I know President Xi of China very well,” Trump said in his Tweet. “He is a great leader who very much has the respect of his people. He is also a good man in a ‘tough business.’ I have ZERO doubt that if President Xi wants to quickly and humanely solve the Hong Kong problem, he can do it. Personal meeting?”

The State Department reports on human rights and religious freedom in China describe Xi as an authoritarian leader who runs a Communist regime that habitually violates the rights of the Chinese people—including holding people in internment camps and forcing people to renounce their religious faith.

“The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is an authoritarian state in which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the paramount authority,” says the State Department report on human rights in China. “CCP members hold almost all top government and security apparatus positions. Ultimate authority rests with the CCP Central Committee’s 25-member Political Bureau (Politburo) and its seven-member Standing Committee. Xi Jinping continued to hold the three most powerful positions as CCP general secretary, state president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission.”
