Quoting: Yew They tested [the organ's] functionality by measuring the rodents' responses to different types of pain. When the cells in the organ were turned off via gene editing, the animals had a normal response to thermal pain, or discomfort caused by heat or cold. But all of the mice showed a reduced response to mechanical pain when the glial complex was deactivated. This organ does not aid in the sensing or perception of heat, but only functions to identify sensations caused by pressure/mechanical contact. Pretty interesting. It is as if nerves are meant to identify heat & thermal changes whereas the glial cells, which make up this new organ, are only meant to identify pressure. My back is super painful today so that'd be nice lololol or..is it really painful? Perhaps i have somehow chosen to view my back as painful today as a result of some subconscious belief formed from yesterdays interactions. I know my back pain is real after working on roof repairs this week. I have to get up at sunrise to tar the roof and work on the chimney before the bees get up. I am loosing my battle with the bees, I can not get to them deep in the vents on the roof, they love to attack me working up there. It is hard to keep a steady careful balance in a hurry to getting off the roof and coming down the ladder getting attacked by bees without straining and twisting your back and falling. Today I hit them with pure bleach in a long wand power sprayer I could get in there where bee spray will not reach. Sorry off topic, got carried away. |

Quoting: GenX Dude Now, that sounds familiar, from college biology....21 years ago Anyway, would the author/s of the paper cited call something an organ if it weren't indeed an organ, and then it is also published? It seems like the scrutiny the information and discovery would undergo would expose the wrong designation of it being an organ, if it were indeed wrong.
