Nice seeing them all getting long for a change, as opposed to the usual Hummer Wars I get to see. Quoting: esoteric Morgan Yesterday, out of nowhere came a hummer dive-bombing another that was almost near one of my feeders...chasing him away with a vengeance, yet, not even going to the feeder himself. For pretty little guys they can certainly be quite nasty. The ones here are iridescent blue and green, with a little tinge of red sometimes. Thanks for the video! I have to have about five feeders spread around in different areas so it's too hard for a bully bird to guard all the feeders. Eventually, swarms of them will come around and that's when you can see multiple birds on the same feeder. |

I had one, a few years back, who must have been the head cheese, and if the sugar water in the feeder started to ferment, or run low, he'd hover about an inch from my nose, and give me the hairy eyeball, and I knew to check things out. I used to work at a garden center plant nursery. The main retail room had a clear high dome bubble ceiling with there rollup garage type entrance doors. 3-4 hummingbirds would fly in everyday and become confused about not being able to fly out the bubble ceiling. They would quickly use up their energy and fall to the shelves or floor. The store had hummingbird food so I would buy a bag and keep some mixed up. I can't tell you how many I nursed back from the edge to release them outside the dome of death. I loved that job. Poor birds, wish they would have designed a better ceiling/building. |
