Big Brother Nanny State tells Americans to set their thermostat at 82 degrees while sleeping

Whoever came up with this nonsense is out of his mind.

I can see the state coming up with mandatory compliance devices that assign households limits based on heating and cooling usage, to be part of ones social credit status!

here, we have a thing where you sign up "voluntarily" to let them set your AC for you on excessively hot days, to save usage.


they tell you you will get a discount if you sign up for the program.

gonna wait a long time for that discount...


imagine them remotely setting your household thermostat and just leaving it there......

I set mine at 82 while at work... 72 at night while sleeping... that is when the rates are cheapest here!! Silly assed Government Bullshit...

Yeah, I'm sure AlGore keeps it a balmy 82 in his palace and private jet.

I won't. 82 is hot. DiCaprio can give up all the luxuries he wants. He could start sleeping in a tent next to the bums on Skid Row for all I care. My thermostat stays where it is.

My wife is going thru menopause.....hot flashes and all.....house stays cold like a meat locker.....I walk around the house in a down jacket.....to touch the thermostat is to risk losing a hand.....lol.....

82 f is 27 Celsius, thats insane way too hot , even in the winter i have my heat 20 C

I am confused about this article, i thought "EVERYBODY" was trying to save the environment. Would having your heat cranked that high be adding to their "Climate Change". Wouldn't they want it set colder to use less fossil fuels to heat the house????

They're talking about air conditioning in the summer.

I can see where a Canadian might make that mistake, though.

The EPA would probably tell us we need to keep our thermostats on about 55 degrees in the winter by the same logic.

Looks as if they've backed off due to rampant complaints but have the new setting at 78 degrees, which is still pretty warm.

No they didn't...they where asked "what is the most efficient setting" for "energy star" AC they asked the manufactures, and the consensus was 82 degrees at night IAW mean temperature.

I would never get a decent night's sleep at that temperature. Even with a fan blowing right on me.

Supposedly, the ideal sleeping temperature healthwise is in the 60s. I think it's 68, but it might be 62.

So, Nanny State wants you to:
-Eat your GMOs and Frankenplant protein burgers
-Drink your BPA/estrogenic and prescription drug and Fluoride-laden water
-Be bombarded by wifi and who knows what else
-Sleep at a temperature about 20 degrees hotter than optimal
-Take prescription drugs that keep you going just long enough for profit, but never actually be cured

I'm sure there are more rules I'm forgetting on being a good little world citizen. But if you follow them, you might get to the ripe age of 55 before cancer strikes you, which is fine, since it just makes for more profit off of you.

I mean really. 82 is so hot!

Don't forget all the use of chemical scents and cleaners.

plus, a ceiling fan, two floor fans on either side of bed and in summer when extra hot and humid, I have a portable floor air conditioner for the bedroom.

Why even bother? Of course, the setting that doesn't require much energy is going to be the most efficient. I've had days where my AC needed servicing, and even with it turned off, the temperature in the house doesn't get higher than 82 in 95+ degree weather. It would be like being asked what is the most efficient setting for a light bulb, and answering, "Off."

I guess that's a great way to lose a few pounds - sweating your ass off while sleeping
