Seems about right for TPTB to throw out an outrageous number like 82 frickin degrees and when everyone gets pissed off they come back with a lower number like 78 which in most peoples opinion ....judging by this thread... is still too damn high, and they act like they are doing us a favor by offering a more (reasonable) temp! All the more reason why I left ole Kommiefornia about 20yrs ago...saw much of the writing on the wall then.

I'm in N. Miami and our house is 77°f during the day and 75° at night with fans on.

If I make it any colder than I wake up congested.

The AC went down last month and it was like Hell at 80° before I got it back up and running.

As a Canadian I can understand why having your house at 82 in the summer would be an expensive toasty proposition.

Living in a place, such as Canada, that has 4 seasons - fall /winter /spring /August 1st and 2nd, you do understand that MAYBE on a couple of days in the summer you won't have to use your furnace.

Please use this advice with caution ... us American's wouldn't want you Canadians to feel you have to use your furnace more than the 363 days that you already have to use it.

I’m use to hot weather. 80 during the day and 76 at night. 82 is way too hot for most people. Might as well have the windows open.

For the good of the planet there should be no air conditioning in any government building in the entire world.

Fans make a big difference. Have them on all the time.

I always have it set there in the summer but I am single. Maybe that's why

I also use ceiling fans, 100% bamboo bedding, perpetual iced tea & swimming pool out back.

Just come inside with a wet bathing suit on, even 82 degrees seems cold.

I could set it even higher as I have low blood pressure, as heat does not bother me.

I have set it at 86 degrees in the summer in Texas, but now I have a long haired cat.

82 degrees is hot for my cat as she will sleep on the tiled foyer floor.

You could use a freestanding air-conditioning unit, some are 6,000 BTUs.

Use this unit to your bedroom.

If I turn my A/C off when I leave the house for a few hours it never gets about 80. North Texas . I guess if I left it off all day it would reach 82. So basically they are telling you don't use A/C.

Ours is on 68. Always.

I've improved my house the last couple of years. Put new doors and storm doors in, Anderson Windows, and insulated the garage ceiling with rock wool.

I keep my day thermostat at 75, night time is set at 74. I'm not a fat slob, so I don't need arctic temperatures to keep cool.

I'm having a new Trane seer 16 XL HVAC system installed in early September. Additionally, I'm upping the attic insulation and installing a powered attic vent this winter to pull excess heat out from the attic.

Since my house is all electric, The new seer 16 HVAC likely cut my heating and cooling costs down by 40% or so (not to be confused with the total electrical use). My old HVAC (22 years old) is currently rated at seer 5 for comparison.

House is 2 bedroom, 2 full bath with 780 sq ft sq ft of climate controlled area minus the garage (total of around 960 ish sq ft). (small and economical)

My house is all electric. Last month my July (Arkansas Summer) electrical bill was $93 with the old HVAC, June bill was $86. The summer bills before the upgrades averaged between $130 and $145.

I'm betting my summer electric bill drops into the $70 range with the new HVAC system and upgrades to the attic space.

People that get those huge ass stick frame piles of shit homes that takes a power plant to heat and cool are not practical, at all.

I'll be building a new house in a few years. When I do, it will be as efficient as the budget will allow and be completely off-grid capable. The house will be built around GEO thermal earth based heat transfer principles.

My current house will be my in-town dwelling.

That's 93.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Do they want you to turn on the heat when you're out?
