Put new doors and storm doors in, Anderson Windows, and insulated the garage ceiling with rock wool. Quoting: iSwear What does this have to do with the article? I keep my day thermostat at 75, night time is set at 74. I'm not a fat slob, so I don't need arctic temperatures to keep cool. Bill has dropped by 30%, on average, since the upgrades. I'm having a new Trane seer 16 XL HVAC system installed in early September. Additionally, I'm upping the attic insulation and installing a powered attic vent this winter to pull excess heat out from the attic. Since my house is all electric, The new seer 16 HVAC likely cut my heating and cooling costs down by 40% or so (not to be confused with the total electrical use). My old HVAC (22 years old) is currently rated at seer 5 for comparison. House is 2 bedroom, 2 full bath with 780 sq ft sq ft of climate controlled area minus the garage (total of around 960 ish sq ft). (small and economical) My house is all electric. Last month my July (Arkansas Summer) electrical bill was $93 with the old HVAC, June bill was $86. The summer bills before the upgrades averaged between $130 and $145. I'm betting my summer electric bill drops into the $70 range with the new HVAC system and upgrades to the attic space. People that get those huge ass stick frame piles of shit homes that takes a power plant to heat and cool are not practical, at all. I'll be building a new house in a few years. When I do, it will be as efficient as the budget will allow and be completely off-grid capable. The house will be built around GEO thermal earth based heat transfer principles. My current house will be my in-town dwelling. PLATA BITCHEZZZZZZ UPGRADE UNAVAILABLE The Rolling Stones said it best... "What's confusing you is the nature of my game" |

Kind of like living in a prison that they setup. Really, if you have any brain cells left as an American citizen do not do what the government wants you to, it's bad for your health. I could get by with sleeping in a warmer room, but my husband could not. He's a polar bear who would overheat at 82 degrees. We keep it at 72 degrees at night so that he can sleep, and I just use a blanket since I'm the opposite of him and get chilled easily. This works out fine for us. We both sleep comfortably, although that would not be the case if bureaucrats got involved in our a/c temperature setting. Different people have different needs, which is why attempting to legislate something like temperature settings inside the home would always lead to someone being miserable. |

But the large majority eat way too many calories and are packing around a lot of excess blubber. In infrared, some people glow like a oven at night from all the calories eaten during the day. Besides this. If our civilization spent more effort building better, more efficient homes instead of building them as cheap as possible, we could have effectively cut the of heating and cooling in 1/2 in the U.S. How many people actually think about the energy cost when buying or renting a home? |

User ID: 45462766 United States 08/20/2019 06:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am confused about this article, i thought "EVERYBODY" was trying to save the environment. Would having your heat cranked that high be adding to their "Climate Change". Wouldn't they want it set colder to use less fossil fuels to heat the house???? Quoting: 83toy They're talking about air conditioning in the summer. I can see where a Canadian might make that mistake, though. The EPA would probably tell us we need to keep our thermostats on about 55 degrees in the winter by the same logic. LOL i thought that after i posted. Yhea AC here for the house would be like 14-16 days out of the year lol Must be nice. It's been 97+ for two weeks down here. My AC needs a break. I camp out alot and in some places it gets down to 45F in July in the morning. That's at 9000'+, of course, not anywhere near sea level. I run my AC at home at 70F in the summer to sleep and 50F in the Winter in my bedroom. Cold is better. Bring on that Global Cooling. It can SNOW 365 days of the year, for all i care. 365 days of skiing each year. :fireplace: "Remember when we used to treat colds and flu with chicken soup, saltwater gargles and warm tea instead of Communism?" |
