The F-16 Block 70/72 combines capability upgrades, most notably the advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar with a new avionics architecture, and structural upgrades to extend the structural life of the aircraft by more than 50 percent beyond that of previous production F-16 aircraft. F-16 Block 70 software takes advantage of technologies not available when earlier Block F-16s were developed and produced. Operational capabilities are enhanced through an advanced datalink, targeting pod and weapons; precision GPS navigation and the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto GCAS).

Better than most planes and probably as good as anything China has as far as area defense birds go. And area defense is exactly what Taiwan needs.

China has to invade across ocean in full view of Taiwanese defenses. At the first sign of invasion troops are well drilled in dropping mines at sea and on beaches. A whole bunch of antiship missiles are disbursed all over the place. And though they'll start shooting those missiles early there'll be some left when the amphibious assault ships begin unloading troops a few miles from shore. That gives them mere seconds to destroy those missiles before thousands of Chinese marines get wiped out.

Taiwans air force will operate under cover of sam missiles. Try fighting a flight of f16s when sams are firing on you.

66 F-16s though. That's a powerful force if you ask me and a huge boost to Taiwan's airforce. Most of China's jets are cheap knockoffs of Russian and American designs, they're not as advanced in that area yet and have a long ways to go to perfect them. So it doesn't matter if the F-16 is a 45 year old design.
