Anonymous Coward User ID: 77937993 United States 08/20/2019 06:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Grand Cherokee is only worth about 2,500. I own a 1996 with the 4.0. Original motor and transmission with 228k miles. There is one year they had trouble with cracked head. The transmissions don't handle abuse. As long as you treat it nice it will last. Common problems with the 4.0 are broken piston skirts and valvetrain noise. Not all years have this problem. Usually the engines with problems were abused from overreving. Since its a one owner who kept it in great condition you probably won't encounter any problems. All 3 options are good except for the price on the GC. Parts are cheap for the Jeep and Explorer. I say go with the Explorer. |

I am faced with choosing one of these three and would love some feedback from the GLP motor heads. Quoting: Control/Alt/Delete 1st option: 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 4.0 L 6 cylinder, clean title, one owner, 100,000 miles, great condition in and out - $4000 2nd option: 2006 Chevy Trailblazer: V6 4.2L, clean title and in and out as well, 140,000 miles, tow hitch and roof rack - $3200 3rd option: 2002 Ford Explorer: 6 cylinder, 4wd, 190,000 miles, real clean - $2,200 All seem to drive well and passed my initial inspection. Gotta make a decision by tonight so I can get back to work. If you had 4 grand and had to buy today which would you choose? The V-6 Chevy, as long as there are no rear end problems with that tow hitch. |

Almost anything other than what's on the list. Not trying to be a dick, but those are awful vehicles. I need a bigger car for work so a sedan is out of the question unfortunately. A 90's Chevy Silverado won't work? How about a 90's Tahoe? Yeah trying to get in touch with late 90's tahoe owner but he wont answer. The LA used car market isn't fun. I don't think they put the LS engine in before 2000. Late 90's would have the 350. My 98 GMC 350 grenaded at 135,000, but other people do better. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

It's only a 2WD, but the price suggests 4WD but it's not. I can buy these in 2WD for under 2K all day long. If you buy it be sure and research "strawberry milkshake" and if you don't know when lower ball joints were last changed it would be a good idea to change them with OEM LBJ's. Just do a Google search on both these topics and you'll know why. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77935488 I had the paint blow off a late model ford, and I also had a ford engine blow below 100,000 because the oil pump quit working. I guess if you live long enough and buy enough cars something will be wrong with any of them. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77851707 Canada 08/20/2019 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ah the notorious strawberry milkshake, always a good idea to either change the rad or get an external tranny cooler. I have 2 4runners and thankfully have not had that issue. I have had the cylinder missfire issues though, need to change all the injectors. Also insurance a little high over here for them because they are tippy/rollover prone. |

I think you could still get a 5.7L Vortec or 7.4L up till 2000 in the 3/4 tons and 1 tons in the old body still, they did one of their transition phases where they offered different body styles during the same year. Great vehicle , drives like buttah. They eat ignition coils like mad but besides that pretty reliable. Avoid Jeep , [ahem, Chrysler product] Sad I sold it and kept a 7 series Bimmmer. Uuuuuuge mistake although the Bimmer was amazing, never stoppped fixing it and eventually it leaked so bad from the timing cover and virtually everything else I sold it to a car flipper who got hosed cause it threw the timing chain lol I'm rambling on. Trailblazer. Do it. |

Fwiw, most 350's in my experience got about 250,000 miles out of them but they were very badly abused. I've seen a couple with over 300,000 with good maintenance done. But you're right, not quite as reliable as the LS series. TRUMP 2020 Willam Barr 2024 |
