I am so sorry for your family stituation. Recently, I have started to just back away from high tenion situations especially involving morals and politics. If I were to offer any advice, let the 2 of them handle it.

Your mother should have the edge over your sister. If she doesn't, that is the problem.

Sorry to hear about this, OP. It sounds like there could be elements of a personality disorder in play together with the political stuff. If other aspects of your sister's life is often chaotic then that might be the case. (While politics is the lightning rod.)

I get in huge arguments with my daughter over Trump as well. She hates him with a passion and want listen to any counter points and most things she believes are lies are things that have been twisted by media. She has very few facts and didn't even follow much of the election whit Hilliary and missed so much but thinks she knows it all and I'm the brain washed one. She will bring up politics pretty often even though, we agreed to just not talk about it. She becomes a different person when she gets on that subject. The hate is beyond rationality. Like something just takes over her. Yes, I believe TDS is real. What it is I'm not sure. We have always been really close and thankfully, it's not long before she apologizes and tells me she loves me and doesn't want to fight. I feel for your mom. I get so mad at her but a mothers love is hard to kill and especially when you love your grand kids too. I don't know how you solve this really.

She seems to be about beyond help until something changes. Either left is more exposed or Trump leaves office or your mom God forbid has health problems that makes her realize how mean and dumb she is being to fight about politics. I would just support your mom all you can and try to get your mom closer to you. Maybe, write your sister a long thought out letter and warn her that she will regret forever doing this to her mom and that she want be around forever and Trump want be either. Good luck.

Ooops, wasn't going to post but if you only have a will, the money will get gobbled up in probate, so I guess that would serve them right. You could do a trust for the grandkids to access when their 30 but then who would administer it? I don't think you can trust anyone when it comes to that. Maybe an adult child but I wouldn't trust this one. Sooner or later though, they'll re-appear looking for your money. Just my two cents.
