Australia's Mandatory Gun Buyback - Estimated Compliance Rate?

Does anyone from Australia (or elsewhere) know what the estimated compliance rate was for the mandatory gun buyback plans back in the late 1990's and early 2000's? Was the compliance rate estimated to be of a high percentage, or was it estimated to be low? If it was low, what further actions, if any, were taken?
