How come you never see old birds?
It just dawned on me the other day that I've never...ever seen an old bird, like you see old people (can't fly, can't walk, hobbling around slowly & in pain). They are either fully alive and flying....or dead. No inbetween.

I wonder why that is. Has anybody ever seen an old bird? hmm

Most birds fly to the Moon on the last full moon of its second year of life

If a bird forgets to fly it will die

If a bird dies it dies

If a bird is a bird then its really a bird bird

I seen this short video on youtube how crows react to seeing a dead crow you might find interesting.

I've seen crows that have turned grey as well.

I think an old bird that can't fly then can't get to food or water & wont last very long as it soon becomes easy picking for predators as well.

I shoot them before they get old...

If you look up a typical birds life expectancy, you'll see they die before they get "old".

I had to kind of nurse another Herring gull. Another one with a bad leg. This leg was complete flimsy so it just sat around but now its repaired. This one is more socialable as it was on the shed roof. My head was over the top of the shed and it was inches away having a stare out comp.

Easy there, Brit-boy... Birds naturally have a slower metabolic rate which speeds up the aging process and this leads to a shorter lifespan. Especially during hunting season.

In most humans, our metabolism rocks fast when we are young and slows as we age which leads to less muscle mass and increased body fat. Of course, you may be the exception to that general rule and are both young and obese.

Old birds (in captivity) are quite disturbing..
I prefer the way of Nature.
You see them beautiful and alive or dead.

They just don't look old. I've seen the same pair of doves return year after year.

What I wanna know is where is the squirrel shit? We have tons of squirrels. You'd think I'd see their shit. I'll see rabbit shit, bird shit, dog shit, no squirrel shit.

Re: How come you never see old birds?
A better question is you hardly ever see dead birds. When people die someone finds them and then they have to get buried...but you never find dead birds (for the most part)... They just go off into the bushes somewhere and hide and get covered up really fast or eaten by something else. I have wondered in the past about where have all the dead birds gone....have you?
