My brother lives in Surf City NC mile back from coast . He is a Marine and not evacuating . Do you think storm surge could go that far ?
He didn’t have surge there during Florence .
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77967937

Only thing worse would be North Topsail which I imagine will cease to exist.

I hope your brother got over the bridge and inland, if not, surf city is where I would want to be on that island.

The airport's need to be open so that they can land survival supplies. Three airports need invading and runways cleared. Temporary Air Traffic Control has to be established. Cutting all aid to the illegals at the border and sending them home would resolve this.

Let's please stay on topic; the people of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas need our help.

We can send them a bill later what's the difference. We are here nearby fit for the job and people are going to be dying. At least open up the airfields. The Coast Guard is in there but not in force

The US should send some aid, just as an act of humanity. But strictly speaking, the UN and other international disaster relief organizations should be the ones doing the real legwork, right? Ok enough politics from me, sorry.

Based on the HWRF model, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Beufort will get hit pretty hard.

It predicts that the the right hand eyewall will go through there as the center makes landfall just west of Atlantic Beach.

With that strong onshore flow of wind with the right side eyewall, wind and storm surge damage could be significant there.

If the center passes off to the east of there however, the amount of damage would be greatly lessened.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9838266

I don't see how you can predict an exact place. But it's typical path headed for Hatteras and old points around there. Albemarle sound will be pushing up water 10 ft. on the wind.

Looks like it is starting to move NNE now.. sooner that happens the better SC + NC will fair. Please keep in mind that as it moves north is will undergo baroclonic effect which will expand the windfield and could even peak the wind strength up a bit more before it becomes completely extra-tropical. That may be what is starting to happen now rather than the type of convective deepening/ we saw several days ago as a compact storm. That does NOT mean its undergoing Rapid Intensification-- rather the same thing with a Noreaster and Sandy, which for all intense and purposes was NOT a Hurricane when it made landfall-- an extra-tropical low.

Typical path to the graveyard of the Atlantic. That may be an error-- it'll never reach Halifax as a full fledged tropical system, it will be Extra-tropical per their own forecast, just like a nor'easter.

we were more than $3 QUADRILLION in debt in 2009 ... I don't supposed its gotten any better. This is just the USA.

A QUADRILLION is 1000 Trillion.. so more than 3000 TRillION... YOu are being lied too.

some of the money to spend.. because there is not enough coming in from any source is high quality counterfeit being printed in THAILAND.. $3 TRILLION AT a TIME IN $100 bills.. this has happened several times in the last few years. I think this was discovered about 3 years ago and it continues.

What's a few trillion between friends?...lol...

My point is I'M SICK OF US DOLING OUT MILLIONS AND BILLIONS TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES when our own people don't have the basic necessities of a decent life. There is no warrant AT ALL in the Constitution for so-called "foreign aid."

You want to go help. GREAT! I may even contribute, but don't force me to contribute through taxation at the point of a gun.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77946877

The US needs to get the three airports open.
The fields of buried in sand. Think of it as a training exercise for the CBs or the Corps of Engineers. I might even use the Marines landing craft hydrofoils to Ferry supplies from Miami to GB and Abacos. Another traing exercise

Per last NHC discussion.. "..the intensity models, which
unanimously gradually weaken the cyclone. On the other hand, the wind field is expected to gradually expand during the next several days until the cyclone becomes extratropical near Atlantic Canada." Hurricanes can't exist up there-- only as an extra-tropical low.

LOL.. I believe you only have that half right :) Florence was in a latitude area where very few hurricanes ever made landfall. So I called out the people who 10 days earlier were saying a Cat 5 was going to hit NY, when historically it never happened and you have to see the trends instead of spreading misinformation. For Michael--absolutely not-- i called for 1 of 2 solutions which was a Cat 4 or greater :) I just went back and read my post for accuracy :)
