roots of White Privilege

There aren't any. Let me tell you about my Grandpa/Grandma on my Dad's side.

Grandpa told me a story in the late 70's how he came home from school one day and his mother was crying. Why? He asked. It turns out they were broke, and his father recently died. He dropped out in 8th grade and went to work. I think this was around 1925-ish. He never went back to school. But, he did tell me when he was trying o find a job in Chicago/Cicero there were usually signs in the window "Irish need not apply".

Grandma was from Lithuania, her family got passage to America by selling the youngest daughter into indentured servitude. They all came to Chicago, and when the servitude contract was paid off, the youngest sister disowned her family and was never heard from again.

My family wasn't close, but I wanted to share this because human nature is predatory - even between White people.

I am 49 now, my grandma above died on Monday, the same night John Lennon died. we got the call during Monday Night Football on the West Coast where I grew up.
