Super bright satellite!!!
We saw a super bright satellite gleam at us on our walk. This thing lit up brighter than Venus for a couple seconds, gleaming from a sun that had already set. It was amazing!!!

From the very little and half assed research I’ve done, it was likely the International Space Station. Only my star apps confirm this, and people who describe its brightness. Otherwise NASA and other websites say we shouldn’t have seen it. It had to be huge.

I found a video

If you see it again just google " iss tracker " it will show you the current location of the space station , I have seen it many times.

Saw an absolutely brilliant and huge, seemingly stationary, object this morning at 4:45 am ESE sky.

It was flickering awesome shades of reds, blues, and pearl whites.

It may have been an Iridium Flare
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76881681

This is my guess. The Iridium satellites have big (big) reflective solar panels, and when the angle is just right, they brighten up brighter than Venus . . . for a few seconds. Then they fade back to hard-to-see-unless-it's-good-and-dark-out.

The only thing, there aren't many Iridium satellites in orbit now. They've been replaced, and rather than leaving them in orbit to entertain me, the operator of the system brought them out of orbit. Anything that didn't burn up during re-entry is now in Davy Jones' locker.

Here's what you can do, though: go to [link to heavens-above.com (secure)] and enter your latitude and longitude, or the name of a nearby town (since they've got a pretty thorough index for that). Then you can search for past events. I'm assuming you know approximately what time you spotted whatever you saw, and heavens-above can confirm that there was an Iridium satellite reflecting down on you at precisely that time. They can calculate down to the second when the flares will take place, and the area of the flare's visibility, as well.

And then let us know what you find out, pretty please?

You should check out Astroshill's video of the ISS:

Yes OP, I've seen it too.. Space Station with sunlight reflecting off it..

It's pretty cool to see it.

You must be in a really remote area.. So nice to see the sky without so much light pollution.

When I saw it, I was in the Sierra Nevadas and also in Canada north of Kingston in a remote area.

Re: Super bright satellite!!!
I dug deeper into this at heavens-above, and what you saw may have been the ISS.

You said what you saw was brighter than Venus. Per heavens-above, the ISS's average brightness doesn't rival Venus, but if things happen just right (the angles between the sun and the ISS and the observer have to be perfect, and the ISS has to be at the low point of its orbit), it can occasionally outshine Venus.

Iridium satellites often put Venus to shame. Their flares were shockingly bright sometimes, and I got a big kick out of them. But at one time there were about 60 of them in orbit, so you could count on seeing one most clear evenings or mornings, and now only a few remain. For me, the next time one will be visible will be October 7 at 20:04:12 local time. It won't be as bright as Venus, either, but if it's clear that evening and I drive about 12 miles to my west, it'll be WAY brighter than Venus. Magnitude -8.1, it says, and Venus is -4 or so at its brightest.

Bonus magnitude trivia: the full moon's brightness is in the -13 range. The sun is -26. This means the sun is 2.5^13 (to the thirteenth power) times brighter than the full moon.

But the full moon seems almost as bright as the sun!!! Well, the reason it seems so bright is because it's dark outside. If we could FILL the sky with full moons, horizon to horizon, all the way across, the net effect would be about 1/5 the brightness of our sun.
