User ID: 77763575 United States 08/28/2019 08:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Have heard similar observations from many w/ their outdoor gardens. Also heard from several who are now looking into greenhouses so they can hopefully produce better plants. Advice to all looking into greenhouse farming....look into a loop system regarding hydroponics and raising tilapia or other type of critter. And thought struggles against the results, trying to avoid those unpleasant results while keeping on with that way of thinking. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77947178 Australia 08/28/2019 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | here in australia it's been getting weird for a number of years. the autumn leaf-drop has been pushing further and further into winter--yeah winter--over the past five plus years. this year i have a plum tree which actually decided to retain a few of her leaves... it's pretty much spring now and new growth is underway. i have a fig tree which did the same thing. my roses have not stopped flowering and they also have kept an incredible amount of foliage--they no longer get any rest. last summer... the sun was so intense that my tomato plants were cooking on relatively mild days (27-30°C range) something you wouldn't usually see until the temp got up around probably the 40 mark. and it wasn't pests or soil composition. |

Lots of blossoms on cantaloupe, but not one fruit. Getting very late in season, so guess I will just watch. Grasshoppers have been huge problem, but that is cyclical. Will be looking for a starter greenhouse for next spring. Fort Collins, CO Last Edited by eddy on 08/28/2019 10:18 AM |

User ID: 77340289 United States 08/28/2019 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Squash bugs went ballistic this year. Couldn't knock them down. Also horn worms have been a big issue. They were bad last year, too. My Jerusalem Artichokes aren't flowering yet either. Usually they do, but maybe they'll be a week or two late? I've noticed a lot of stress on leaves. I'm thinking the UVC may be causing some issues with some plants. Had a great year with beans, okay with taters and onions and cukes until the squash bugs hit the cukes hard. Toms are okay, peppers are sucking, herbs are alright. Garlic sucked. Berries have been good. Chard is good, but spinach just did nothing. I don't even mess with cabbage as I can't keep the pests off them. I don't use anything other than garlic oil, neem and DE, really. Soap and cayenne if the hoppers are bad. Bit of a mixed bag for us this year. But thankful for what we've gotten. Things are bad enough, there is no need to make anything up. ~Fluffy "Never interrupt an enemy in the process of destroying himself." Quercitin and zinc...Get it. Take it. User ID: 59490123 United States 08/28/2019 10:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I concur ... worst garden ever - this year the cabbage has managed to survive in lace form but I'm not holding my breath for it ever making heads ... same issues with my garlic as you described ... peas turned completely white after harvest ... potatoes' leaves shredded just like the cabbage - never had this problem with grasshoppers (this bad) before ... and it isn't much better in the greenhouse, where every thing blooms like crazy but the fruit doesn't mature even when I pollinate by hand... no Summer squash outdoors either ...but the winter squash is doing ok (Golden and Acorn) out doors and the onions seem pretty normal ... lettuce and spinach did ok indoors ... peppers are JUST NOW getting blooms - no ripe tomatoes yet ... I use nothing but Heirloom seeds and natural fertilizers ... never had these issues before - always had enough to share but not this year ...good thing I still have plenty in the freezer.... started early - plants still tiny after being outdoors for 3months? plenty of rain - not all that hot ... just plain weird - the only things that did well were strawberries, onions and peas - no fruit on my berry bushes but my shrubs and trees grew twice their normal rate? and the grasses/weeds in the fields are ready for a 3rd cutting ??? can't keep them out of my gravel driveway this year - resorted to burning them out (refuse to use glyposates) |

Had 1/4 of one in my scrambled eggs yesterday and gave me indigestion all day? Friend told me they can cross pollinate with hot peppers.... I guess that is the problem. Never was in the past though, strange. I usually pick all peppers and shred them/dry them and use in my cooking. 2 quarts last year (not much) just finishing the first. I might not even bother this year. Good to see some participation in this thread, thanks everyone! Anonymous Coward User ID: 77134059 United States 08/28/2019 11:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Humboldt county CA My grape and Roma tomatoes are doing great but taking really long time to turn colors and ripen. It's south facing but, I'm by the coast, so the clouds burn off, sometimes not till 11. My cannabis is good just starting to go to flower, smelling lovely. Few tiny caterpillars, easy to spot them, very minor leaf damage. Expecting a good pound or two from my 3 females. Cucumbers, good. Hot peppers NOT DOING SHIT Apple trees, check Nectarine, check Bing cherries, check Plums, check. Potato, growing fast Been sourcing my own seaweed and kelp from the shore, mixed with burnt chicken bone and cherrywood ash, plus banana peels, urine, seashells, dead crabs, and coffee and tea grounds. Plant food of the Gods. |

User ID: 69359666 United States 08/28/2019 12:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We had a very good year for cherries and managed to net them to keep the birds away. Apples look like we're starting to get some alternating bearing. Pears are excellent. Other stone fruit was a zero. No nectarines, apricot trees all died from apple cancer and had to be replanted, peaches...I harvested "the" peach. Literally one peach on a total of 8 trees, but there was a very bad peach curl this year. Figs are late. Zero kiwis Persimmons look to be fair to good. Olives, a bumper crop this year after two bad years, we didn't even harvest olives last year. When you are afraid of losing your life, you have already lost your life. Don't be afraid. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35379259 United States 08/28/2019 12:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here in SW Forida.....tons of ant nests on the plants. Teeny tiny ants that feed off the plants and now to top it off mol and mildew setting in and finishing off the plants. The tiny ants are even killing the trees. One HUGE tree (about fifty foot high by 45 ft. wide)by my house came down and i had no idea it was dying cuz it was just as beautiful as can be. After it snapped off at the bottom at the trunk you could see they ate up the inside of the tree. Inside was completely ate out! They have started on the pines, the moringa trees, the oak trees and fruit trees and i have to keep going back and spraying them but i know its not getting the ones inside the trees! They will die too but just a slower death@ |
