He's a good cat (for a cat). And I got him back to healthy again...somebody should want him.

Aww... really? Why won't you let him in?

-----------

He ain't mine & I don't want a cat...I've always been a dog guy.

I just didn't want the little guy to die. When I first met him I thought he was going to die...I just fed him to make his last few hours on earth a little more comfortable.
 Quoting: Mental Case

He still might die, if he's sick just feeding him won't fix him. He needs a loving person to take him to the vet.

I stand corrected once again, he's not healthy if he's got a cloudy eye :/

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
I have a dog house in the back yard...it has carpet, and I threw in a towel for extra cush & a stuffed smokey the bear that I had won out of a claw machine...kitty wouldn't go in there. (my dog never used it either).

Welp, I was having coffee this morning watching kitty eat breakfast & then kitty left the deck & went into the dog house...I was like no fuckin' way!

I walk down there to check & there was kitty snuggled up to smokey the bear :D

I think it's close to about time to bring kitty to the humane society and hope for the best. The nights are getting cool.

If you let it live in your backyard with that house for it, and give food and water each day, it would have a better life than if you give it to the humane society.

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
There's a stray kitty hanging out in my back yard...poor little guy was skin & bones so I started feeding him.

Last night I left the food dish outside & after dark I hear GRUNT NOM NOM NOM...I thought to myself...kitty doesn't make noises like that.

I get the flashlight & look...it's a racoon eating kittys food. And the thing growels at me.

I open & slam the screen door & yell at it...it doesn't care...I shine the flashlight in it's eyes...it doesn't care.

So I just gave kitty a big dinner & I made a new dish of food with lots of tobasco sauce :D

I'm gonna set it outside after dark dance

Why be kind to a cat and cruel to a raccoon? They're both just animals trying to survive.

You'd rather spoil food than let the poor creature have a meal. You're not a good person.

I've a feral cat and an opossum living in my backyard.

I feed them both.

:possum:
 Quoting: Louis in Richmond

I have a feral cat and a raccoon who comes every night at the same time. He was eating the cat food, too, but I started giving him other scraps. I save plate scrapings for him. He's smaller than the cat, who is pretty scrawny.

Raccoons like liquid with their food. I have given this one a little beer in the cat food and he loves it. I don't think it will hurt him. He just came right up to me while I had one in my hand so...

OPOSSUMS eat ticks. They are good to have around! Cheers!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77086501

Yes they do and they are harmless, all they can do is hiss at you or play dead.

And they are adorable!!!

HA! Harmless? Pick one up and give it a nice little head rub. Take him to bed for some snuggles.

You could ask humane society for trap and release.
Our humane society here traps, neuters them and releases them back into their territory.
Why not bring kitty into your family? Cats are wonderful friends if treated with respect, they are very loyal and protective too.
Plus they're great lap warmers in winter!!

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
he might smell the tabasco sauce right away because it has a vapor. better to take a ghost pepper, chop it up into small pieces, and hide it in the food you put out for him. Ghost pepper is damn near odorless and doesn't burn you right away so the raccoon will be chomping away at the food for a while before he runs away screaming
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77648897

I opened my door one morning and a cat ran inside and just sat there lol.
I gave it some water and cut up some chicken from the night before and let it eat then put it back outside.

The cat just sat on the door step.

I finally said OK you live here now.

The problem I'm having is...it seems there is very little chance for kitty if I bring him to the humane society...I think they euthanize like 3 million cats a year.

But I really don't want a cat! I never have!

But this guy is really good & seems like he's just never had a fair shake in life...a cloudy eye...a front paw that looks like it was broken & healed wrong...a twitch that tells me he may have had his tail broken at some point.

He deserves better!

If you don't adopt that cat and take care of it, you're gonna regret it for a long time - think about it a lot. The cat's probably old and gonna die in a year or two. If you gave it a good life till it dies you'd feel great about yourself. It's not just about "wanting a cat".

He's not old...I would guess a year or 2.

Secondly...why does everybody elses problem have to become MY PROBLEM?

A cat walks into my back yard & I am obligated to care for him for the next 15 years?

I don't even know if it's a he or a she...I never looked...and I know nothing about cats.

Atleast I'm familiar with dogs.
