Work weekends when the thumpers come from their worship services and see first hand their stunning, Godlike compassion and generosity. But stick around, the other slaves for tips will come by and more than make up for it. It's called tip sharing. Last Edited by hillbilly on 08/30/2019 10:27 PM Water is the only drink for a wise man. Where you get paid to sit around and pretend you're actually adding value to the company? The tip is for making them give you drinks first over the other alcoholics. You sign off the tab and add 15% tip. Is 15% considered too low of a tip? Quoting: TheBlands I tip 30% minimum if treated well...wherever I eat/drink. I know people who tip well below 15%. You already got financially raped by the obscene cost of the drinks and you are considering giving away more money for 0 benefit? Who doesn't tip a bartender? A happy bartender makes for a happy me. Example. I had 5 drinks. Paid $5 in tips. Bartender hooked me up with another drink and a bag of chips. LOVE what you did right there... class act. Are we there yet? I got a seat at the bar after my first beer ..I gave the bartender 20 dollar bill and said keep'em coming and make sure they are cold. Never had to wait, got a few beers for free. Quoting: zzbudzz Another reason I don’t tip. Bartenders constantly steal from the owner by pouring free drinks in exchange for better tips. Again fuck all that. Tipping started in the Great Depression when people were so poor they wouldnwork for free running food from the kitchen to tables hoping for a tip. If that was the situation I would throw them some $. But servers don’t deserve wht they make. I know some that pull down 300-500 a shift. Do you tip the cooks in the back that make $10-12/hr? |

It’s hard to keep track which ones society deems tipable. I mean wtf would i tip some cashier? Bc they put a cup out that says “tips for college”. Fuck that. Roofers break there backs in the hot sun for $15/hr do they get tipped? Some teachers make 35k a year. Tips? The whole system is fucking retarded. Employers should pay employees. Don’t like the hourly wage, quit. If I want to tip you for exceptional service that should be my decision. Minimum wage and tipping needs to go away. People say it makes the service better. Well if the service sucks then the owner will lose business, in turn firing the shitty servers. Let the free market sort it out |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75761247 Canada 08/31/2019 04:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Fuck all that shit. I can name 40 jobs that work harder then servers. They don’t get tipped. Don’t like it, fucking quit Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77773466 Yeah I know - it's weird how some jobs expect tips and some don't. Often I see a tip jar at a regular transaction point of sale place - where they just ring up your items for sale. That's too much for me - I never tip anyone just for ringing up a sale. The American tipping system is totally out of hand. Why should an employer not be fully responsible for the worker's pay, instead passing the cost to the consumer? I sure as hell don't get a tip for my job and I work a lot harder than some kid behind the bar. |

It's not below me to leave next to nothing if im pissed off at the service. Failing to keep my drink filled at a restaurant will quickly result in a shitty tip. Rarely will you have that problem at a bar or sports bar....or I never do the places I go. My understanding is 20% is about average these days... personally I think that's a bit high for "average" but I can deal with it. |

They get paid either nothing or next to nothing by the establishment and depend mainly on tip $$$. That's my understanding...they aren't making 15/20 dollars per hour as a working wage paid by the employer like other examples given in the thread of other professions who don't typically get tips. Tipping is a forced transaction. Here’s one. I buy a $500 bottle of wine. Why does some moron that opens it deserve $100? Then at the next table the other moron only gets $5 for opening the $25 bottle of wine. Who worked harder? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 28925333 United States 08/31/2019 04:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I typically give about $1 a drink unless I'm in some po-dunk town where the drinks are like $0.75 or something. I used to tend bar and I would make bank. All I did was act friendly, put a smile on my face, and talk up the customers a little bit. Typically, they love that. If they weren't a talker, I'd leave them alone and come back for a refill when their glass was getting near empty. I'd walk out with at least $100 in tips every night and this was about 20 years ago when drinks were like $2-$3/pc. I rather enjoyed the job. It was easy, and I like talking to people. |

The good ones know how to make everybody involved happy. Tips insure prompt service. You pay more TAX on that top shelf bottle. Yet you would begrudge the same for the poor server that DOES THE WORK. Quite sure the alcohol makes them happy, followed by depressed. Again why does the server deserve more bc I want a more expensive bottle. They do the same work. Prompt service should be insured by the manager or owner. Who should pay a appropriate wage to his employees. |
