Re: How would you change gun laws if you thought it would really change anything
Start with harsh penalties for having any military grade weapon that isn’t registered. Harsh penalties for possession of a military grade weapon OUTSIDE YOUR OWN HOME.
Anyone with a history of violence would be unable to legally own firearms, and they would be subject to search if they create any noise.
Since Big Brother is everywhere, and most people spill their guts online anyway, whatever bullshit a person spews online about guns would be fair game to search them for unregistered weapons. And if you break those laws, you’re branded dangerous, like a sex offender.
Still freedom, but penalties for being an asshole.

which is all the Left really wants! Yet, the right insists that the left wants to take guns away from everyone.

Maybe those on the right believe that the only effective gun control WOULD be taking them all away! It's like admitting that there are too many nutjobs with dangerous toys out there.

But, as much regulation and insurance as one needs to own a car is absolutely reasonable!

Not being a turd.
I'm asking an honest question that hopefully gets honest answers.
My thought is I don't think you can
 Quoting: Honch

Require every citizen to arm and train to proficiency by 16.

No exceptions.

Make gun free zones illegal unless that location can provide adequate security to allow the designation. This would prevent situations where you can have mass casualty events because of the deluded idea that a sign would stop a lunatic hell bent on murder..

GOD & I, the returned Christ, are going to abolish guns in the US like we did slavery in a previous life. We're going to amend The Constitution/Bill of Rights. Are you with Us?

Looks like the main thing most of us agree on is psyche evals and mandatory gun safety/training of some sort
 Quoting: Honch

Isn't psyche evals the same as red flag laws? No pass no gun? I thought everybody was saying Trump is the devil for even CONSIDERING red flag laws?

No one has military grade weapons in the us except those who have undergone extra scrutiny by officials and received a tax stamp. Your argument is invalid.

Free gun giveaway. Everyone MUST own a gun and take lessons and pass a test. Everyone.
If everyone had guns, people might be more polite and orderly. I wouldn't tell anyone I was going to do that, I would just do it. If it were up to me.

Why would a law prevent actions by law breakers?

Law breakers dont obey laws.

Isnt it illegal to shoot people now?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69659606

Just like it's illegal to run people over. Which is why we have proficiency exams and training.

No one is saying that making laws stricter cuts down the number of gun deaths, it does allow for professional scrutiny of how a person acts around weapons. And adding insurance can help defray the cost of gun violence has on heath care, law enforcement and society.

I find it VERY suspicious when someone is against someone evaluating their behavior when it comes to dangerous weapons.

If people have money for multiple weapons, they have money to put in the fund!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76998126

Majority of firearms used in a crime are acquired outside of the law.

Your silly 6 step process for gun ownership would do fuck all to stop gun violence.

Private gun sales (citizen to citizen) should have to be done at a firearm dealer so that transfer of ownership and background checks can be completed.

When they use weapons in a act of terrorism, be a domestic terrorist or a foreign one doing it, Congress must convene immediately to consider all and any legislation about it.

That way the shooter will think twice that he's gun was the one that made the law that stopped the use of he's weapon(s). And the people he works for.

Re: How would you change gun laws if you thought it would really change anything
All guns should be microchipped. If the microchip is removed or tampered with you loose your gun rights and face prison. Open carry for only hand guns. Anyone that has no criminal record or mental obstruction should be allowed to carry. Gun free zones in shopping centers where a security guard would be armed. Gun insurance should be kept on all open carry guns.

That's all I've got.

I do not want guns taken from the people that need them. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. hiding

Commit a crime with a gun, get mandatory 25 year sentence with no good time that starts after you serve time for crime committed. If someone is killed or seriously injured, then a mandatory life sentence. Bad guys with guns get punished and not the good guys with guns.
There go I except for the grace of God.

Added to this, if a location bans legal CHL carry (like 30.06 & 30.07 signs in Texas), victims of gun violence in the location should be allowed to sue for denying the constitutional (and God given) right to self defense. That would stop killers from searching out gun free zones.

When I lived in TX (all my life until last year), you could legally carry a long gun in the vehicle without license. My high school had pickups with gun racks in the rear window with rifles and shotguns. I can't imagine that isn't especially true in Midland-Odessa. Why didn't someone draw a bead on that f'ker's forehead before he shot so many???

You have zero clue what you read up there, are ignorant and do not belong in this conversation.. not for a second.

So how bout you just shut the fuck up, get on your fixie and go take a ride through all the human shit on the streets of your "paradise".
