Constitutional Republic is right. Its not in any way necessary to add democratic to the mix. A Republic already entails the people voting to elect their representatives. People like to add "democratic" to stress the voting rights of the people but again thats already implied in a Republic system of governance.

If the United States was a democracy, then 50% plus one vote could take away your right to free speech, freedom to peacefully assemble, right to bear arms and so on.

The Founding Fathers didn't want mob rule to vote out constitutionally guaranteed individual rights, that's why the entire constitution is a check and balance on mob rule and individual rights which (theoretically) can never be taken away by either the mob or the government.

When you say the United States is a democracy not a constitutional Republic, then you are saying that the mob and/or the government is superior to the constitution of the United States and the individual rights the constitution guarantees.
